Mauser Posted May 1, 2004 Author Report Posted May 1, 2004 Hi again,Have asked dealer who sold me the motor to look into this :), he said he will check the Silver Warranty... what good that will do it covers only the starter motor and the alternator, that sucks for a warranty. Tried Trading Standards but they are on holiday till Tuesday about what rights I have over buying a second hand car from a dealer ?, there might be some come back as the car was supplied less then 1 month ago but I won't hold my breath so any lawyers out there please post if you know my rights :).Cheers SimonPS will keep you informed on what happensPSS anyone know what gauge the wire is in the loom ?, looks like 0.5mm but might be 0.75mm will have a look around @ work and see if I can find some nice supple multicore cable as a back up.PSSS anyone know if you can get these items second hand from scrap yard if so anyone know any good Ford breakers ?. Guest nimrod Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 cable size is 0.5mm, what parts are you looking for from the breakers? ps. when you add anothers ps its the P's that get added not the S's pps. :) Quote
Mauser Posted May 1, 2004 Author Report Posted May 1, 2004 Woz alwazs por @ scool witt inglish Nimrod :) Was after a wiring loom if its @ the right price :).You got spare 1 hiding under your rear seat I know it :).Cheers Mauser Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Not got a wireing loom ;) although I do have a set of rear lights and a few electric window and mirror switches, spare wheel winch mech, front door central locking motors and a couple of other bits of interior trim! a 2.8 engine mount :P now that makes an interesting door stop as its was a non returnable part that I didnt need :P its amazeing what stuff you collect once you start takeing cars apart! I have a rear axle bash guard off a Sierra Cossy, a K&N filter for a pug 205 GTI, a complete Recaro interior for a Polo G40, an assortment of alloy wheels off Golfs and Galaxy's, the Galaxy rims are beyond repair (buckled) but they do for emergencys! I seem to stash all the bits that one day will fail but till then they take up to much room in the garage  time to get a bigger garage or a skip ;) Quote
Mauser Posted May 3, 2004 Author Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hi guys,Found a guy with a 2001 diesel which he is breaking any idea's if his loom would fit my 1999 model ?.Cheers SimonPS he hasn't said how much yet :P. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Complete loom is different. The bit to the tailgate may well be the same though. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Best bet is to check the plugs for the loom, according to the TIS they are in the LHD side cubby hole but they are not! they are in the RHD side clipped to the body just underneath the rear light fitting, check that the plugs are the same shape and contain the same wires in the same positions as your existing loom Quote
Mauser Posted May 3, 2004 Author Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hi guys,Easier said than done... the guy is online somewhere in the UK :), if it will fit then he will give me a price. Sorry no way of telling apart from ringing Ford which I will try tomorrow.Dealer has said he knows a good auto electrican who will look at it :(, this worries me as the car came with 12 months MOT and needed a new anti-role bar strut next day :(.Best to let him look first I guess.Cheers Simon Quote
Mussey1 Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Just a thought. As routine maintenance, would it be wise to spray the inside of the rubber gaiters on the tailgate the doors with a silicone lubricting spray or would this simply make matters worse?? I know this stuff works well on the window channels etc. Mussey1. Mauser Posted May 5, 2004 Author Report Posted May 5, 2004 How annoying,The dealer wants me to take the car so his electrician can see whats wrong with the tailgate and order the bits..... I have told him whats wrong, the wires have broke . Anyway the 2001 diesel loom I was offered @ Quote
seatkid Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Why do the wires break in the tailgate loom? 1) wires too short and under tension at the point it flexes, especially if it bears against a point on which it rubs. 2) the wire type is not really suitable for flexing , e.g. cheap equipment cable has few cores and the cores are laid parallel which is Ok for a fixed installation whereas cable designed for flexing has lots of finer cores which are twisted together. Cheap cable has insulation which can fail under flexing and temperature cycling allowing the wires to oxidise and then they snap easily when flexed.  What is Seatkid trying to say?  A replacement loom is likely to be exactly the same. So why not repair the cable and extend at the same time? Quote
Mauser Posted May 8, 2004 Author Report Posted May 8, 2004 3 hours later and the dealer says to me.."you really want a new loom don't you ?"Well it took me less than a millisecond to say "yes" :(. I said you get it and post it to me and I will fit it :), hope its a simple replace jobby.Cost me a tenner in juice driving around Birmingham to see his "expert electrician" who said if it was him he would repair the broken wire and wrap tape around the others..... "not after spending Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 All the rear hatches trim will have to be removed as will the trim around the D post/rear side window and the head lining will have to partially lowered to allow you access to looms routing I would go for the repair option in the short term and stick the loom in the garage till you really need it! as Seatkid said it will only happen again! :( Quote
Mauser Posted May 17, 2004 Author Report Posted May 17, 2004 Sorry guys changed the loom .No real problems apart from not thinking it through, should have started in the middle at the rubber boot, had to undo a bit then restart but all went OK. Had to remove the electric rear window motor to get old loom out, and some of the Ford cable clips were impossible to reach without breaking them off or removing more panels.Feel happier now its fitted .Cheers MauserPS took about 1-1/2 hours I guess Quote
