Gearbox Seized

hello all, i was wondering if someone could help me out, i was on my way back from holiday, just pulled onto the the motorway slip road and the gearbox seized up, the aa came out and said they would have to tow it home, do you think its a new gearbox job or could there be a more simple fix, any advice would be appreciatedas i t will be going on ebay very soon.cheers

We need a bit more info here.... please add your vehicle particulars to your signature. You don't say manual or auto for instance.......

sorry, its manual 1.9tdi 90bhp, it will force into 1st gear but thats it

Most likely its just a cable snapped or become detached (usually but not always, gearbox end) and the selectors are in the wrong position.

 

Other possibly IIRC is a selector bolt has become detached and disappeared into the gearbox.
