randall977 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I'm picking up my 2 year old 2.0 TDCi Ghia next week on which I got a very good deal and am very excited. I've had Audi's and VW's upto now but I need something bigger and when I drove the Galaxy as a courtesy car last year I was very imprerssed. Okay - I've been told that Ford dealers are terrible and that...trim falls off, handbrakes fall to pieces, PAS breaks and electrics play up but are we talking 1 in 10000 or 1 in 10 for these problems? Could I get a 'good' one or will I definitely suffer? Quote
gregers Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 luck of the draw like with anything im afraid, wether its a monday car or a friday car :46: Quote
randall977 Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 So my PAS might not go wrong and the handbrake might not fall apart... I was hoping that might be case! Quote
randall977 Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 Well so far nothing seems to have gone wrong, I assume the fact that no one uses the mk3 section of this forum means they must be very reliable cars! Quote
Dick Dastardly Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 We've had a 2.0tdi Zetec for 6 months, done just under 10000 miles to date with no problems The air con is pants and if all the doors and windows are shut the tailgate seems to not always shut first time but on the other handThe trip computer says 40 mpg and it gets a hard life and driven reasonably hard I know it's a short time but I'm happy with it ! hope yours is a good one we bought a zetec as we test drove a new ghia with the full length sunroof and all of the stupid roof pockets rattled and squeaked and one even popped open Quote
randall977 Posted September 23, 2010 Author Report Posted September 23, 2010 Yes the previous owner said 'we've just topped up the air con' - at which I thought I've never had to top up the air con especially not on a 2 year old car! Anyhow it seems to work okay at the mo! Quote
Weimster Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 To be fair I REALLY like love our Galaxy. But the trim is loose in places and a bit of the handbrake did come off and had to be superglued back on! lol The cable for the bonnet release snapped just before the warranty ran out and got it replaced, but overall (SO FAR) I would definitely get another! swagger Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 [ive had mine for a year now, and no probs what so ever, 48-49 mpg on runs at 70-75 mph, i must of got a good one lol Quote
toecutter Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 I must be the ying to all your yangs At 40,000 miles my dual mass flywheel disintegrated At 57, 000 miles m y gearbox disentregated. The windows take it in turns to bounce back I can't get a manual or a luggage torneau anymore And now it seems to have gained a healthy appetite for break light bulbs. Quote
Tomoose Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 72,000 on my 56 plate 1.8 TDCI Ghia, had some tyres, front pads and disks, and a windscreen (cracked), and thats it. Drives better than new, 45mpg all day long, and is immaculate inside and out with no wear anywhere at all. Actually I lie, one of the overhead consoles needed a replacement catch mechanism (warranty) and the gear knob is looking a bit worn. I love mine and will keep it till it dies, undoubtedly the best 7 seater on the market! Quote
justride Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 I have had a MK3 Galaxy since 2007 - for the past 18 months it has developed an annoying habit of discharging the battery. The discharge can occur over a week, a day, a couple of days - there doesn't appear to be a pattern. It gets worse in the winter probably due to a heavier electrical load. The battery discharges at about 0.6 amps I've:Replaced the batteryDisconnected various fuses in an attempt to isolate the problemTook it to Ford Dealer #1 - couldn't find the problemHad an auto electrician look at the problem, twice, who told me that his friend in Ford says its a known problem and a Software Upgrade is required.Took it to a Ford dealership for the "upgrade" - for some reason they couldn't do it. Forum do your thing - please Quote

Forum do your thing - please Hi m8, just got your PM This discharging problem you have is a totally different to my intermittent starting problem I'm afraid. I still have had a few non starting times but not as many as at first, this was made better after a 450 mile run to Scotland and back and the problem went away for a while and only happens twice a month now rather then five times a day. Sorry I couldn't help  Edited November 18, 2011 by Bobski Quote

Forum do your thing - please Spoke to AA guy here in Ireland recently and said that the electric power steering pump does not always shut off and can cause the battery to drain.... He is the only person I've heard this from...... Also somewhere on this forum read about a wing mirror electrics caused drain on battery... Hope this poins you in right direction. Quote
