Hi,

I currently own a MKII Ghia TDi 2002. Its a great car but its coming to the end of its life now. The new model looks great, but is it better than the MKII?

I know the Gal MKII is basically a Sharan/Alhambra.... what about the MKIII? I have seen new Alhambras which are teh MKII still, so is the new gal totally a Ford one?

Any advice welcomed!

Thanks

The S-Max and Galaxy (MkIII) are essentially the same car.

Space-wise there's a bit less headroom in the third row of the S-Max because of the way the roof slopes down. So, it's better for kids than adults unless the journey is a short one. However, the S-Max is cheaper than the Galaxy.

1 thing that amazed me with the s max was the ammount of leg room for the driver,im about 6' 1.5" :46: and when i test drove it my missus was directly behind me,i adjusted my seat right back and couldnt reach the pedals properly and there was loads of space for her legs,in the galaxy i have the seat right back and have no problems at all.

i do believe the seats all fold down within the car like the new galaxy,i havnt checked the actual dimensions of everything i know the mk 2 gal swallows a load of stuff if needed, only trouble is storing the seats.

I've just bought a mk3 2.0 TDCi Ghia (2008) and I'm really pleased with it. It's an excellent design both internally and externally and the engine is superb - 45mpg average with 6 large adults (not driving particularly carefully). Mine doesn't seem to have any reliability issues. Having had Audi's up to now I don't think that they have any less problems - but the dealer is generally good when it comes to fixing them. The mk2 was a great design in its day - I remember it coming out but it does now looks old fashioned - I can't believe VW still sell them (not for long though!).

The new Galaxy is the only sensible choice if you're looking for a large mpv (imho) which carries upto 7 (which, btw, the S Max does not do comfortably - as great as it looks).
