MrT Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 I like the new radiator grill that looks like honeycomb with a bit of chrome on the 2004 Galaxy. Does anyone know if they can be straight swapped with the larger diamond mesh on the 2002 models? Any idea how much they cost? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Yes, and you can also fit the chromed surrounds to the front fogs and the lower air intake panel with chrome bit in the middle. They just clip in whereas you will need a couple of torx drivers to do the rad grille. To fit the upper chrome bit on the grille though, you will need to open the bonnet and replace the rubbery seal bit plus drill some holes through the front edge of the bonnet and use some fixings to hold it in place. Latest word was that these items are not yet available as spares. Rad grille alone is likely to be in the region og Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 NO PERFECT FIT,WENT ON A TREAT LOOKS REALLY GOOD J Quote
georgiaalana Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Hi,I have just purchased a 2003 tdi (130) galaxy ghia, I would also like to upgrade to the chrome effect radiator grille and spotlights, I read from Jim that you can pick these up from germany, do you have an email address or contact details for the supplier, Many Thanks, Barry Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 They are now available as spare parts from your local Ford dealer. Fog lamp surrounds just clip in; grilles require a few more minutes' work. Quote
stourwalk Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Just bought these for the forthcoming car, didn't cost as much as described above :-) The Grille comes complete with badge & Lower Chrome Grille. The upper chrome grille is a seperate item Galaxy 2004 Front Grille Part Number 1326840 Retail Price: Quote
MrT Posted August 28, 2004 Author Report Posted August 28, 2004 Then there is the rear chrome strip but unfortunately that only comes with a complete new rear number plate light holder. The number plate holder only comes complete with lights and also requires painting. As for fitting the bumper chrome strip, it has an adhesive strip for the upper surface and I suggest adding another for the lower to avoid having to drill the bonnet and risk rust. I did not have to remove or cut any trim or seal to fit it. Quote
stourwalk Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 Okay, finally picked up the Galaxy on Friday and went to fit the new grill over the weekend.. How on earth do you get the current one off the car - I can undo the 4 screws on the top, but then... I'm guessing I've got to undo the 4 clips that are on the grill (attaching it to the bit of black plastic), but there are another 4 on the bottom that I've don't think I'll have much chance of removing.. Or does the grill detach along with the black surround by careful 'wiggling'? Grrr... Quote
MrT Posted September 6, 2004 Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 You don't need to undo the four screws to remove the radiator grille. The radiator grill is held on by four barbed tongues on both top and bottom. You can see the position of these from your new grille or the picture below. You need to push something that will not scratch the bumper and open the gap between the grille and its surrounding parts to push each wedge down so it can be pulled out of its hole. A really hard pull would do the same, but you risk breaking the square holes that the wedges fit into if you do this. The new one just pushes in. Quote
stourwalk Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 Thanks for that - I wasn't sure whether I need to remove the whole thing or could just get the grill out. You've answered that question perfectly - will have another go tonight! Quote
stourwalk Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Plucked up the courage tonight (with the wife watching!) and after a little while building up the courage got the grill out - then had to work out how to get the new one back in - top middle connectors were a little awkward, but one big shove and it all popped into place! Looks fantastic! Thanks for the advice! Chris Quote

georgiaalana Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Hi, Just to let you know that I followed everyones advice about the new chrome bits and all fits perfectly, not too much problem apart from the grille, which took a little longer and a few grazed knuckles. Cheers, Barry Quote
