Carlos Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I have a 1998 Galaxy 2.0 GLX and recently it wouldn`t start, my dad decided to jump start it while I wasn`t there and done a straight car too car jump(using battery terminals on BOTH cars)and when I got it back off him none of the wipers or washers would work. I have tried all fuses and had the stalk off the steering rack on they all seem fine, but I can`t locate the relay box or fuse box under the bonnet(I`m not very technically minded)to see if there is a problem in there. The battery wouldn`t hold its charge either after the jump and I had it tested at Halfords and it came back with "UNSERVISABLE" code. Replaced the battery and everything is working fine on the car apart from washers and wipers. ANY advice would be gratefully accepted. Regards Carl. Quote

I`ve read through a lot on these forums and its not just front wipers, its rear aswell. Checked near battery for fuses under bonnet and nothing visual to see. Stumped on relay box and only other thing I can think of is ECU, but not sure if that would have anything to do with wipers and washers.....Just done 150 mile mystery tour with grandkids today and its running sweet as a nut (touch wood) apart from washers and wipers. Next step is an auto electition I think. Edited September 5, 2010 by Carlos Quote
Carlos Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) I spoke to a retired mechanic today and he says that galaxies have Mondeo engines in them and that they have a fusebox with 4 or 5 "dealer only"(larger than normal fuses) fuses in them? Could anyone clarify this and also point me in the direction of where these might be ??? Edited September 7, 2010 by Carlos Quote
Mirez Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 He's correct...ish. The 2.0 petrol is a mondeo engine, the 2.3 petrol is a scorpio engine. You should be able to see the fuse box easily in the engine bay, pop to a scrapyard if you do need a replacement - they are about a fiver from a dealer! Quote

Hi Mirez - Re:Mondeo engine in Galaxy. The truth is no Mondeo engine ever went into the Galaxy. The 1994 -2000 2.0 Petrol engine (8V DOHC) was a transverse/FWD application of the engine used in the Sierra, Granada/Scorpio and Transit van (All these were 'in line/RWD). A really heavy, underperforming lump of an engine, and was generally known as the 'Ford DOHC'. ALL Mondeo ('93-2000) petrol 4 cylinder engines were from the 1.6/1.8/2.0L 'Zeta/ Zetec E' engine family - all 16V and were (to me) much better than the horrible DOHC 8V unit. The 2.3 as you say was a development of the Scorpio/Tranit motor, (an enlarged version of the 2.0 DOHC with a 16V head and balance shafts) again rotated and modified for FWD use.The only part on the cars (and then with modified casings) that was similar to Mondeo was the 5-speed transmission (VTX75) which was a development of the Mondeo/Escort etc higher power application MTX75 transmission assembly. Hope this clears things up a bit. George. Quote
