hotleaduk Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Had to change my rear brake pads on my Ford Galaxy Mk3 1.9 Tdi. Search internet but found no help so I thought I will let you know how I changed them, it will probably apply to S-Max as well. Each side follows the same procedure. 1. Took wheel off.2. Using 13mm and 15mm spanners undo two 13mm bolts that hold the brake caliper piston assembly to the brake pad carrier. The 15mm spanner is to hold the nut on the brake caliper piston assembly. These bolts are behind the carrier so will come out from the back.3. Once both bolts are out, you can then lift the brake caliper piston assembly away, you may need to wriggle it to push the piston back slightly.4. The carrier is now exposed with the brake pads. Life the pad out and the two metal slide plates. These are plates comes with the new brake pads. The black coated plate goes at the top. and the other at the bottom. Put the new plates and pads are back in.5. I got a Laser tool from Halford to push the piston back but I heard you can do it other ways but probably much harder.6. The new pads also come with two new 13mm bolts. Put the brake caliper piston assembly back over the pads and use the new bolts and tighten to specified torque.6. Also I took the cap off the brake top up cylinder under the bonnet and remove enough brake fluid to set it back to the maximum level.7. Replaced wheel. Quite an easy job. Quote
