Gapesterr Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Oh ok lol to be fair the only issues I've ever had was the heater under the car there a fuse box under the Bonnet which nearly caught fire (cleaned and put petroleum jelly on the connectors) exhaust and callipers that's it considering the mileage and age it runs tip top Quote
BrianH Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 If it's working leave well alone! The quality of replacement ones is somewhat hit and miss. Kerbing the wheels can cause damage over time but they do also wear out. Knocking noises when steering and vibration being main symptoms of faults besides the worn splines issue Quote
Gapesterr Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Cheers for the help and advice guys glad I joined this forum now Quote
BrianH Posted June 3, 2015 Report Posted June 3, 2015 I have an unused one in the garage as I expected to do the drivers side too but never got round to it. The intermediate drive shaft needs replacing now so I'll probably stump up for the Motomax shaft and get better quality drive shafts for both sides and do them all at the same time. My gearbox requires to adopt a more relaxed driving style as if you try to rush the change it gets very noisy as it tends to baulk, particularly first to second. I understand intermediate shaft replacement has been known to improve gerachange too, so here's hoping.... You might want to bleed the clutch slave cylinder for that btw - i had the same issue which went away when i replaced the clutch and csc but suspect it was a dodgy csc in my case causing the dodgy gearchange symptoms (fine if you take your time, but doesn't want to be rushed!). SilverBeast Posted June 3, 2015 Report Posted June 3, 2015 I did get all the brake fluid replaced and bled through and asked them to bleed the clutch at the same time as it shares the same reservoir, but they didn't do that as it's awkward (which is why I asked them to do it in the first place!!). If I recall I looked at the TIS procedure and that involved (stands to be corrected) pushing clean fluid back through from the bleed screw into the reservoir.....or maybe I dreamt that? Nope just checked:-(i) Using a suitable syringe remove brake fluid from the brake fluid resrervoir until the brake fluid is at the MIN mark.(ii) Pump approximately 80ml of brake fluid into the clutch system via the clutch slave cylinder bleed nipple. If i could get my TIS disc to work i'd have a look there, but i can't!. All i did is to open the bleed screw after bleeding the brakes and treated it as you would a brake. This was on replacing the csc and clutch though so it was empty of any fluid. I can't remember if I bled it again after replacing the master cylinder but don't remember it being particually difficult beyond the access. If you know how to solve the info1.ini dealer_env error I'll have a look on TIS. Checked Haynes and that suggests that the method above is correct, although thats no guarantee in itself. SilverBeast Posted June 3, 2015 Report Posted June 3, 2015 Sorry my TIS disc just works that's where I quoted the procedure from. It's running on a Windows 98 laptop using virtual clone disc using the ISO as it doesn't have a CD ROM. Quote
BrianH Posted June 3, 2015 Report Posted June 3, 2015 Well given the choice of the manufacturer or Haynes I know which I'd choose. Think you've got more chance of getting air to escape upwards anyway. I've got microcat to work on an xp vm but not tis. Will have a further play with it Quote
