derekod Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 I am also contemplating getting these shafts, is the broken compression ring available as a seperate item and if so what is the part number for it.I was in with my local Ford Dealer today and he could not identify that compression ring as a seperate item. Aso I presume the parts just transfer from the original stub onto the modified stub. Quote
Ginettamad Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Any replies re oil question on this? Quote
derekod Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) The last time that I changed the stub axle and shaft on mine there was no oil leakage which I found strange, unless mine was slightly low on oil. Anyway I have just ordered up those polish driveshaft's and the centre drive bolt and seal from my local Ford dealership and expect to do the job later this week when all the parts arrive. mopac Posted December 5, 2012 Report Posted December 5, 2012 I have the 90BHP 1.9 TDI (with no drive!!!) This nice looking Polish shaft is only for the 115BHP & 130BHP models. Has anyone found a decent replacement for the 90BHP?The shaft looks very similar but the flange that bolts to the drivers side inside CV joint is deeply dished and the shaft is about 20mm longer. Ford are asking a kings ransom for both parts (about 450 quid!)ebay just turns up the same 115/130BHP variants.Somebody must make a reasonable replacement. Desparate in St Albans! Quote
George106 Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Hi, does anyone know the part number of the stub shaft brass thrust ring as mine is broken and need replacement. I did have a look at the parts diagram and it may be under 7B as Thrust washer 02N409378 or as more likely it could be 7C as tapered ring 02N409374? Thanks in advanceGeorge Edited January 12, 2013 by George106 Quote
craigwoodcock Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 Hi I have just lost all drive from my ford galaxy 02 if I jack it up and turn the wheel on the nearside the driveshaft seems to turn inside the gearbox. Reading these posts it sounds like the intermediate driveshaft has gone but on the wrong side!! What does the driveshaft connect to on the nearside of the gearbox thanks for any advice. Quote
BigDog Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 Due to the differential, if the offside is free to rotate, this perfectly normal. Get someone else to turn the nearside wheel whilst you watch the output stub on the offside. I think you will see it rotating in the opposite direction. If you have the usual stub shaft spline issue you will spot it. I fitted a Motormax one about 10 months ago after my MOT man spotted the wear, and it has been fine. All the best, Matt Quote
t-aslam Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Hi, I have ordered the parts from Poland for this. Just to provide you guys with some info, the seal mirez speaks of on the stub shaft is a typical driveshaft seal for which the VW part no is: 02M301189G and the brass ring 'lock ring' which falls to bits VW part number is: 02N409374. I got mine from my local TPS, luckily i have one down the road. I paid 4.16 inc VAT for the driveshaft seal which is inclusive of a 10% discount. For the brass lock ring i paid £11.44 inc VAT also inclusive of a 10% discount. I will be installing this next week. Quote
t-aslam Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) I replaced mine today. I too had to remove the rubber boot in order to apply pressure and tighten the Allen bolt on the stub shaft. I secured the boot with hose clips. No clickety clack between gear changes! Woohoo. Edited July 6, 2013 by t-aslam Quote
xavier Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 How much did it cost you in total, if I may ask? Quote
niallsan Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 Hi People..Does this intermediate shaft fail on automatic transmissions? Do ye think it's likely to cause a slight vibration if failing? The vibration occurs or is more noticable above 55mph, looking in the rearview mirror, the rearview image shakes or vibrates about once every 2 seconds? Any thoughts?N.. Quote
PhilH Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 After changing the intermediate shaft (with polish parts or not) did anyone else notice their wheel alignment had gone out? Mine now pulls to the right. Quote
Barlidge Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Just wondering if anyone has used J&R CV Joints from Birmingham for Galaxy driveshafts? They seem almost too reasonably priced which makes you question the quality, google throws up mainly good but a few dodgy reviews so just wondered if anyone here had used them. http://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/2x-ford-galaxy-1-9tdi-driveshaft-brand-new-2000-06/ http://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/ford-galaxy-1-9-tdi-inner-drive-shaft-intermediate-driveshaft-off-side/ Quote

How did you get on with finding a replacement shaft? I'm still looking for one, there are none on eBay which are suitable, and from Ford they cost a packet like you mentioned. It's a complete rip-off. Cheers Quote
