jim_69 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 hello all, back again witht he same problem i posted about months ago, here we go, when in 4th or 5th the engine loses power at 30000rpm then slowly creeps up to 35000rpm and thats it, gets to about 75mph, it pulls really well up to 3rd gear.ive just replaced the maf and cleaned the egr system, realy not sure what else it could be, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.cheers Quote
jim_69 Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 another thing i should say is, when it hits 30000rpm if i let my foot of the accelerator then put it back down it will slowly creep up, realy getting to me now! Quote
new nige Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I have a very similar problem; replacing vacuum hoses made a significant improvement but didn Quote

jim_69 Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 seat kid, its the correct part number, its a cheap aftermarket replacemant but its acting exactly the same as before i changed it, i thought it was definitely a maf problem, will check the boost hose today,i replaced the air filter a couple of months prior to the maf, do you think this could be an issue? as for diagnostics, it didnt show any errors at all. thanks both Quote
new nige Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Seatkid, limp mode problem on AHU, if vagcom reports error code 00575 (turbo boost) and having done vacuum hoses and N75 should I consider replacing MAF next? (I would expect a vagcom code if this was faulty) Turbo seems fine at around town speeds and on motorways when you don Quote
ncb Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 It seems like the classic turbo vanes sticking thing. Error code should say something like "postive boost pressure deviation" or similar. If so, you need to take the turbo off and give the vanes of the turbo actuator a good scrubbing. Check the vacuum, vac pipes and N75 valve are working fine first as taking the turbo off is a BIG job. new nige Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Question, My egr valve seems to have been historicaly had the hose to it plugged, when i took it apart there didnt seem to be a blanking plate between the egr and the inlet manifold, i am not showing smoke but could this cause inlet manifold errors and error code 00575 and limp mode? I have ordered a blanking plate so might find out. Quote

I have ordered a blanking plate so might find out. Shouldnt casue any errors. If you have the AHU engine, check the little vac pipe going to the ecu. Infact just change it as its not expensive. Dont forget to carefullly open up the ecu and change the short length inside as this also tears. Also change all other vac pipes especially the one to turbo actuator. Quote
daran71 Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Sorry to jump in and hijack someones tread but i am having very similar problems with my 98 MK1 tdi - I have changed the MAF and T-Map but it hasnt solved the issues! Has anyone a photo of these vac hoses in situ so I can see exactly what parts I need to change!!! Thanks Quote

new nige Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Limp mode problems on a MK1 AHU has been bugging me for ages, I thought I would sum up on Vacuum hoses and Boost Control solenoid. I used braided rubber fuel tube 3.5mmID & 5mmID and replaced all hoses which has very nearly solved the problem. Working left to right white lines mark a)Air filter connection, :) EGR Valve, c)egr control solenoid, d) Inlet manifold tube [connects to ECU internal MAP sensor] e)Boost control solenoid [N75]. Check / replace all tubes. Quote
daran71 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Thanks very much for the photos - will be having a bash at this over the weekend!! Quote
