bfdboy Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 The front passegner wheel seems to be getting warm to the touch (driver side is cold) It did smoke at start of week and get very hot. Now just warm and seems to be brake burning smell. Garage (Nationwide) say brakes are ok not sticking any ideas ? Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Well, it sounds like classic brake binding symptoms to me. The problem might not be manifesting itself before heavy and/or continuous use of the brakes. Personally, I would strip the pads out of the offending caliper, check the guide pins and piston, clean, regrease and refit. Running with a hot hub risks losing the grease from the wheel bearing, and subsequent bearing failure in future. Quote
bfdboy Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 ok Garage checked it . Piston moving freely. Now think it is a collapsed flexible brake hose - getting this done on Monday. Quote
bfdboy Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 Hmm - not the flexi hose. Now suggesting the caliper is at fault Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Hmm - not the flexi hose. Now suggesting the caliper is at fault I wouldn't have though it would have been a hose, they sometimes get weak and swell, but I've never had one obstructed. I would be surprised if it was anything else other than the caliper. If it's getting warmer than the others, it's not releasing properly - i.e. it's sticking. If the caliper guide pins are free, then the piston must be extracted and the piston and bore checked for corrosion and/or wear. Quote
