pj_andrew Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 When I start the car, the dash shows the picture which indicates a bulb is not working. I've checked them all and they are all working. The warning light goes off after about 2 minutes. Is this normal ? or any other suggestions ? PJ Quote
Guest Darren Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 :o I had the same problem I eventually found that there was an intermittent problem with the brake switch causing the bulb failure to think there is a blown bulb 8 quid from fords repaired this We drove around for weeks with this problem only until I reversed on to the drive and realised the brake lights didn't work!!!!!!!!!! Guest Nigel Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 I also had a problem with the brake lights, they were on permanently!I only discovered it when leaving the car to walk into the office, something caused me look back and see the lights on.I had to remove the fuse to kill the lights. It turned out to be the switch being stuck, a little 'jiggling' sorted it and it's been ok ever since. The duff bulb sensor was no good in this situation! Richmond Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 The brake light fault bulb stays on until the brake pedal is depressed. Apparently the handbook explains this (as I was told when I enquired on this forum's predecessor), although I can't find anything about it. I presume that this is done so that the switch as well as the bulb is checked. Quote
pj_andrew Posted February 26, 2003 Author Report Posted February 26, 2003 True, I haven't seen this information in the handbook either. But in this case the faulty bulb indicator stays on even after pressing the brake pedal to check the brake lights. I "think" it goes off after a minute or two due to vibration freeing a sticky "something". I have a solution which requires a cheap part from Ford and I'll see how that gets on. However, I may just leave it and put up with the gremlin - no harm done at the end of the day. PJ Quote
Paul Posted March 7, 2003 Report Posted March 7, 2003 Having recently joined the "Galaxy Club" I too was concerned at the blown bulb indication after starting. CD Bramal's Ford went to great lengths in their explanation. It is true that the indication remains until the brake pedal is pressed, however if the indication persists it is a genuine indication of bulb failure or switch failure. Quote
pj_andrew Posted March 7, 2003 Author Report Posted March 7, 2003 As an update, I took some time out last weekend to delve into the light clusters and check all the bulbs were seated correctly. I fiddled and faffed to make sure all the bulbs were secure. The up shot is that the failed buld indicator now goes off after pressing the brake pedal after starting the car. Sorted. Quote
Guest Boggler Posted March 7, 2003 Report Posted March 7, 2003 Probably a bit late now but I had a similar problem when fitting a high level brake light, my warning light wouldn't go out. After faffing about for a while I found I'd managed to put the bulbs in the wrong way round, so was getting side when braking and brake for side, as the warning light works off the current to the bulb it wouldn't go out. If you ask did I feel like a pillock I have no comment ;-D Quote
Guest 2MPV Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 I had this problem and ended up having a new brake pedal switch Quote
