Thank you for the reply,

If I brought a new one are there many different versions of regulators or are they all box standard for each Galaxy model? Does any one know the part number I need for a 2001 Galaxy Zetec 2.3 drivers door regulator?

I'm just worried if I got one from ebay it would be the wrong one.

Thanks

bob im afraid i need more info,

whats actually wrong with your 1?

afaik you will need a mk2 regulator,if you search on here there has been indepth discussions that say the mk1 and mk2 are different.

BUT i found that the mk1 has the internal plastic spool and the wires to be the same length so i cannibalized it and sorted mine out,

fiddly but do able.

I was told that the wire has started to fray and it needs help closing.

About a year ago the window started to get slower and slower closing, then there was a thud and something sounded like it broke and the window started to work normally but very fast, so I left it as it worked OK.

Then about a month ago it wouldn't close and started to make a grating sound so went to a mechanic who said it was the regulator. Now I think the motor is OK but would rather change the lot.

Would this be the one i need for the drivers door??

well as i said earlier in this thread it depends on how handy you are?

if the motor still works then just replace the wires.

or track 1 down from a scrappy,my 1 cost

Thanks Greg, looks like I will take the renew cable route in the next week or so.

I just phoned at talked to a very nice man who I will be buying the cables from, I asked him if it was a fiddly job to do and he kindly sent me an email with instructions and pictures on how to change the cables. Would you like me to forward this email to you to have a look at and if so put it up with the FAQ section of the forum if you think they are suitable? If so PM me or give me your email address and I will send it to you.

Thanks for your help

Bob

bob just remember m8,if there have been serious noises coming from it,then id bet the plastic spool inside has stripped hence why its over running,so by just replacing cables might not do the job or it might but not for very long,

the plastic spool has 2 serrated threads on it when you take it apart you will see what i mean, you do need 3 hands when doing thishttp://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gifbut it can be done,

shame your so far away from me.

when changing the regulator/wires you will need a block of wood or something similar to hold the window up.

pm sent.

Well the car past it's MOT with flying colors today so went to three breakers yards to look for a window regulator, but had no luck.

Going to order the cables later today and give it a go myself.(lets just hope it's a cable)
