swagger Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Hi all I got 225x50x17 tyres on my gal, and to be honest i hate low profile tyres as the ride is not smooth, if i was to put bigger tyres on my gal ie 225x60x17 how would i go about finding the tyre pressure for the bigger tyres, would they be the same as the ones fitted all ready...any ideas appreciatedAlso got the continental tyres on my gal, great tyres but wear down quick, any reccomendations for tyres that will last longer,...cheers Quote
insider Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 The higher profile would result in your overall wheel / tyre diameter increasing by almost 5cm.This will have the effect of making your speedo read 6% slower, i.e. at 70mph the speedo would actually read 66mph. The pressures for 215/60 R16 tyres fitted to the Galaxy are the same as 225/50 R17 except for the rear under normal load which are slightly higher at 35psi instead of 32psi. You'd have to check whether your insurer is happy with you "modifying" away from the manufacturer's specification but if you were to change to smaller wheels (16") in combination with the higher profile tyres (215/60 R16) then there shouldn't be a problem and your speedo wouldn't be affected either.
