what other gear box will fit a 1.8 (100) galaxy it is a 5 speed box will a mondeao or s-max fit

S-MAX will definitely fit because it's basically the same car.

Also, both S-MAX and Galaxy are based on the (new) Mondeo platform so a Mondeo gearbox should be OK but you'd need to compare the gear ratios.
