I have a 2006 Mk2 Gal (without a manual). Today, I discovered that I could open all the windows at once by holding down the open button on the fob. Excellent considering the weather. However, the reverse does not work. When I hold the lock button, the car locks and eventually deadlocks. But the windows stay the same (I've tried several different button presses and holds).

I've found some posts suggest resetting the windows. I've followed the instructions with the key in and out of the ignition (And ignition on and off) and I've sent the window up down and up; down and up (and witht he respective double click. But there is no signal to tell if what I did was correct. And no change to functionality either.

Before I revert to going to visit those helpful people at the dealership with their inexpensive ways - can anybody suggest anything different to enable the global close funtion to work as weel the open?

Thanks in advance.

First of all, Welcome!!

I have a 2009 Sharan and went through exactly the same as you until I waded through the manual, which confirmed what my VW dealer told me (didn't believe him initially as I kept seeing adverts on Autotrader for Sharans with 'remote closing'). You can't do it from the remote. My guess is that it's a safety thing (I can see that it could possibly pose a hazard, though I constantly make use of it on my 2004 c-max).

But it SHOULD work by inserting the key in the lock and turning it to the left and holding it there. Not quite as convenient as being able to walk away, but still a good deal better than no functionality.

BTW I'd suggest getting a manual. Try ebay - I think they go for about a fiver.

Can you link me to the info about programming the unlock fob button to remote open all the windows please? This is a function I would make good use of. I am able to global close everything with the key in the door. Thanks, x

i think this is only possible if it has been factory set,or you have the correct dos/vag/a n other program to be able to reprogram the central locking.

if your clever it can be done,MIREZ over to you buddyhttp://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Thanks mate, yes its just a matter of turning on a bit in software. Later varients could indeed open but not close the windows - designed to be a safety thing... anti-trap and all that.

Its not that tricky to enable but you do need a laptop that runs pure dos with a serial VAG-COM lead (no usb), anyone that fancies a trip over to Westbury and I'll do it for you... for the obligatory pack of winegums

Thanks for the info, alanfp! I've just checked it and sure enough, it works!! Like you say, it's better than no functionality.

I couldn't see a manual for the Mk2 Gal - plenty for the Mk3 / S-Max though. I'll keep looking - thanks for the tip.

Mirez and gegers - Thanks for your info about the VAG-COM lead. It seems I should get more familiar with this lead. I really don't like the fact the Ford hold the key to simple user-choice on simple things like this.

Thanks again, EP

WOW.

I have the Galaxy 2.8i 4x4 Auto V6 - that is the GHIA X - the universal opening and closing hasnt worked in the month I have had the car. So I tried what the guy said on fixes and it works. Now switched on.

P.S. Regas the aircon on Monday and then I am starting to run out of jobs to do on it.

Thanks for the linky. Can't find the bit about programming the unlock button on the key fob to lower all the windows though - any ideas? I've cheked they all go up or down if I hold the key in the lock/unlock position, but can see immense use for the unzipping the car remotely option. Any idea would be great.

To clear this up, Mk1's <2000 have remote global opening enabled in software - if its not working then you need to reset it as shown in the link. Mk2's >2000/55 have the option disabled by software. Mk3's 06> have it enabled again. Therefore there is no simple way to simply turn on remote locking on a Mk2 - it must be recoded within the ECU. Edited by Mirez
