Guest nimrod Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 On a run I can get 190 miles, round town and on short runs I can hit the 135! but I'm only paying 39p per litre! so I can afford to floor it a bit when needed  OH the joys of LPG Quote
Davetheref Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Sounds like you have been sniffing it as well as using it for fuel. All that messing about with conversions etc. and you may have problems trading it in when you've had enough, unlike like us steady oil burners who are all very safe, old and steady drivers ( I wish). Guest nimrod Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 All that messing about with conversions etc. and you may have problems trading it in when you've had enough I dout it! a colleage at work was been looking for a V6 possibly with lpg already fitted, it seemed the moment they appear on the forcourt or the ads were in the press it was to late as they were already sold before we got there! johnb80 Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I converted my 4.2 Litre Range Rover to LPG under the watchful eye of RPi engineering, it had all the certifications needed for insurance etc. The car ran great on LPG, no problems, no loss of bootspace, the tanks were underneath. The cost of the conversion was Quote
Tigger Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Nimrod on one hand you castigate us oil burning chums for looking at fuel figures but on the other your on LPG? Smacks of double standards. You either aint worried about the price of fuel or you are. Come of that fence and tell all!!! Or are you a secret TDi lover. Why have all those horses running on LPG? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Why have all those horses running on LPG? .......... The easy answer is I specifically wanted the VR6 lump and in order to get it and keep the Mrs happy I persuaded her that to run it on LPG would cut the costs but not the pleasure! that way I get the best of both worlds! and still have enough left over to run my other toys Quote
johnb80 Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 "still have enough left over to run my other toys" Oh go on then, Nimrod what are your other toys ???? Quote
Tigger Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Keeping the Mrs happy Now thats a thread on its own. But I don't know if LPG comes into it? I have held out for 2 years on a new bathroom but they get their way in the end!!!! Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Oh go on then, Nimrod what are your other toys ???? My latest toy  to go with my mountain bikes, my snowboard and my MK2 Golf GTI, theres no point in growing old if you dont enjoy yourself or do yourself some damage a few times getting there! Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 Great point Tigger, is it simply that Nimrod wishes he had bought at TDI, he probably was lured by the shiny V6 badge making it seem driving a Galaxy wasnt sooo bad with a V6, then the fuel bills rose, LPG was fitted and Nimrod looks longingly at us TDi drivers as we sail past yet another filling station with the trip computer nudging the 50mpg mark. Lets hear it Nimrod, as Tigger says, get off the fence and be honest with yourself. You can get help once youve admitted it, we can scan the papers for a TDi once your recovering from V6 ism  Quote
Richmond Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 I assume that Nimrod uses the skateboard when he's not in hurry but still wants to overtake diesel Galaxies. By the way, what effect does LPG have on performance (of the car)? Quote
Davetheref Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 How much did it cost by the way to convert and did you have to have extra tanks fitted etc. Quote
rwtomkins Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 now now, leave the poor lad alone. sounds to me like he's got the best of both worlds. i've got an oil burner and i'd be the first to admit they're all torque and no action. Quote
Guest Long Tone Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 On the Galaxy fuel front, my 6-speed TDI took my wife, German Shepherd and me, plus boot full of kit to Norfolk at 54mpg in continuous traffic moving at 55-60mph. also did North Yorkshire coast run with same load and similar average speed at 53 mpg over Easter. The car's general fuel consumption, including town and motorway driving, is 42-43 mpg, close to what we used to get from a 1.7 litre turbo-diesel Cavalier. The Galaxy gets my vote! Quote
bushm Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Dashed to Thetford Forest and back yesterday at 60-70 mph, a round trip of 68 miles on 7 L (1.54 gallons) Sainsburys diesel, =44.2 mpg. That was with the air con on, 5 seats in, 2 adults, an 8 year old, a 6 year old and a 14 month toddler and all their bikes, picnic and paraphernalia. Quote
Mikef Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Are you guys getting the MPG figures from trip computers? I have to calculate the hard way - how may litres did I top up with, then working it out. The best figure I have ever had is around 45mpg (lots of motorway cruising in sixth). just curious... mikef Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Yeah I use the computer on board, feel the accuracy is OK. I worked out the other day my TDI is costing me around 0.09p per mile to run on diesel which I am fairly happy with, considering my firm give me .40p per mile :D Quote
seatkid Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 start saving the other 0.31p for the a/c repairs 3 years down the line.... :D Quote
Danny Boy Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 I done a run from Birmingham down to chelmsford yesterday and back round trip of 300 miles me the missus, a 14, 10, 6, 4, 2 & 1 year old (yes i squeezed one more in) got 52 mpg doing 60-70 with Air Con on i was well impressed beats the 34mpg i get round town!! :D Quote
bushm Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Your 53mpg makes my 44mpg seem very poor. My Gal is due for it's 60,000 mile service in 2 weeks, I'm hoping the mpg will improve a bit afterwards. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Good man B) full throttle ahead and damn the expence! B) Quote
