On a 125 mile trip yesterday to Great Yarmouth my TDI managed an overall average fuel consumption of 53.3 MPG, its getting better with every run. My normal afc is around 43 or 44 mark.

Whats the best you have had on a reasonable length run.

The vehicle was 2 up and had only 4 seats in, also got stuck at 50 behind a few trucks etc.

That's great fuel comsumption.

One of the best things about these TDI Galaxies is the fuel consumption. Has anyone had experience of any other MPV with as good as or bettter fuel consumption ?

Nope, but I have twice got 50mpg out of mine on 100-mile trips down the M3/A303 by cruising at about 65 and not exceeding an indicated 70 at all (even on downhill bits). My afc is nearer 40mpg, but almost all of this is made up of town stop-start driving plus a bit of 40mph dual carriage bits. Over the same roads, the Renault Scenic diesel (direct injection) I drove previously averaged around 45mpg.

Had a trip to Kent to my brothers & back last week via new M6 Toll(Like it). Averaged 47mpg over 470miles. Had my 4 children on board & used air-con.

Speed between 70-80. Best mpg I've ever had. Usually get average 39mpg.

I would imagine I save a few drops since my Aux Heater motor failed in Jan. :o

On Easter Monday left Carlisle and went over to Anwick Castle, then Seahouses with my wife and our three children aboard. Had a nice day out and averaged 51.3 mpg. I don`t think we went at more than sixty as a maximum. My average fuel consumption is 41.3. I`m coming up for the 170,000 mile service soon.......

Thats the difference between a TDI driver and V6 driver, one gets enjoyment and the other is constantly worrying about his mpg! :o

:o Now lets have some good honest answers to this: ;)

:o How old are you "mega miles per gallon" drivers? :o

:o 'cos 'old chinese proverb say "he who do many miles per gallon drive like grandma" :D

I'm 53,and lucky if I see 35mpg

He who don't slow down for corners keeps fuel consumption low and doesn't wear out brake pads.

Aged 44 and I don't hang around, but I do look ahead and try not to brake if I don't need to. Aiming to get at least 70,000 miles out of brake pads but as the Galaxy is over twice as heavy as the Honda on which I achieved this feat I doubt it!

Hey! Ivor, if you removed most of that stuff out the boot maybe you to could hit 53 mpg :D

It's a distorted picture I think - toolbox contains footpump, frost cover for screen, spare bulbs and fuses, a handful of tools (a few screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable spanner) and a tape measure - never travel anywhere without one! Also never travel without a notepad and paper in the glovebox - the number of people I've seen writing details on their chequebooks after an accident because it's the only bit of paper they have with them......

Rest of stuff is 2 empty coolboxes and a small fold-flat box for the supermarket run, collapsible plastic trolley (as per Citroen Picasso) and folding bike (handy for all those visits to the dealer to get the aircon fixed!!!). Not too much weight there - but I tell you, I don't half get fed up each time the car has to go to the garage as it takes about half an hour to empty all the stuff out and put it in my garage! At least the glovebox is almost empty.

The cuddly toy is in the storage bin on top of the CD-changer!! (it's an Andrex puppy in case the kiddies feel the need to give him a cuddle).

You V6 drivers have got it all wrong, ok you get to 60 quicker but I bet from the lights the diesel would take it, the torque figures speak for themselves V6 having a measley 265Nm@3400 rpm against the oil burners 310Nm@ a leisurely 1900rpm, can't beat you in the insurance groups though, your a whole 3 levels ahead !

That maybe the case John, but we dont lose sleep over our lowly MPG figures as I'm sure the majority of the TDI owners on here do!

on the way down to Cornwall last summer I must have passed more than 20+ TDI drivers sitting in the middle lane with a worried frown etched on their face's! worrying about their MPG :D and why that guy in the 2.8 V6 just went past me like I was going backwards and he was smileing! :D

Funny that, a similar thing happened to me yesterday, I was doing a nice steady 56MPH (60 limit), cruise control on, Julie Cruise on the CD, Aircon on cold and some moron in another Galaxy flew past me so fast I really thought the cruise control must have switched off but no the SatNav confirmed I was still doing 56mph, the mpg showing high 40's. I needn't have worried, 2 miles further down the road he was talking to a nice friendly police constable with a speed gun in his hand. Me ? I just smile, carry on and enjoy the ride. Been there, done that with the fast cars, really enjoy my oil burner now and wouldn't swap it for any other engine other than maybe a TDCi as and when it becomes available.

My mpg is better when I drive. With the wife driving we get an average of 4 mpg less! Mind you I'm 41 and she's only 39 so in a couple of years time it should be better if your chinese proverb is right
