geoffandjen Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 I have a 1997 2.8 v6 Ghia X. I have put it in my local garage and they have diagnosed both fans around the radiator not working. They have delivered power to them but they are not working. The garage say Frod charge Quote

dipsomaniac Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) i would have thought that it was highly unlikely that both fans need replacing. unless the fans are damaged i can't see why you would replace them. surely, the problem is with a sensor or power going to the fans Edited May 8, 2010 by dipsomaniac Quote

Neither appeared to be working, and both appeared stiff. the garage insist that they have 'checked the power to the fans and that is good. They have been looking for second hand fans for me, but have come up with nothing after a week.I have checked Ebay, and could possibly get hold of a pair, or indeed a complete radiator with fans. I have registered with a couple of spares breakers on line, but have had no joy here. How do I check the sensor? I am no electrician. Any help appreciated. Regards Geoff Quote
frogeye Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 How do I check the sensor? I am no electrician. Any help appreciated. Regards Geoff Hi Geoff, I seem to remember being concerned about the fan operation on my 2.8 2001 gal soon after I got it and managed to get the fans running by disconnecting the sensor on the radiator (about half way down the near side) - probably from above but I'm not too sure... and then shoving a paperclip across various combinations of the four points in the sensor connector (ie shorting them out in a variety of combinations). I have a feeling I may have done this with the ignition on (and possibly the engine running?). Anyway I was able get the fans off and on like this, proving to me that the fans themselves were okay. I replaced that sensor, along with the ones on the thermostat housing and feel that the problem was sorted (I also changed the thermostat and water pump as well!) Good luck, Frogeye Quote
