Guest rusty Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Hello, Can anyone tell me in normal town driving conditions, how quickly the engine temperature should rise. This morning ( when starting, outside temperature showed 8 degrees ) it did not reach 90 degrees within the 5 miles I travel to work. Is this normal? Aux heater kicked in at start up and was still going (albeit briefly) when I switched off. My old car was a passat which heated up far more quickly Is this correct or do I have a problem? TIA Russell Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 The diesel Galaxy is reputedly a very efficient engine and in these temperatures 5 miles probably isnt enough to reach full operating temperature. If this is a regular trip for you during winter you might consider blocking off part of the front grill to speed heating but only when its cold obviously. The engine will last longer if you make longer journeys at full temperature as less wear occurs. I wouldnt lose any sleep over it though :D Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Agreed - my journey to work is about 5 miles on "A" and "B" roads and the temp gauge has never reached the "normal" positon before I get there. Journey home is about 7 miles, about 1 and a half on motorway, and the temp gauge gets to normal position before I get home! Quote
Guest rusty Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Thanks very much for the responses. Scratch another 'concern' off the list. Regards Russell :( Quote
