Mirez Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Had a quietish metal clunky noise everytime I accelerate hard and then release, tracked it down on the last Mk2 to a broken bracket and found the same again on this one - follow the pipe from the intercooler back towards the turbo and you'll come across a bracket that clamps the pipe to the side of the engine block. On both my Mk2's this clamp had fractured resulting in the pipe being allowed to move around and causing the metal tappy noise. It seems there is some kind of reaction between the alloy and the pipe that creates corrosion which pushes out on the bracket, fracturing it in the process. There are two part numbers for fixing it, the 90's and 115's use the same part as the original and the 130's and 150's had a revision change midway through 2005. This change moves it from aluminium to steel however it will fit the 90's and 115's so I don't really understand why it only shows as a revision for the 130/150's. Since I was ordering other bits from Ford I popped it onto the same order - part number is 1425429 @ Quote
Jayton Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 vag cat's catalog is down, so can't check the *rough price*. Also don't have EKTA installed on my work PC yet. Quote
Mirez Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 And to conclude it was fitted today: Old one, you can see the crack: Old and revised steel part: New one in and fitted: FYI Bolts need to be changed as they are smaller then the original ones. Quote
gregers Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) do you think this part is a problem?revised part, wonder if they had a lot of complaints or just a general upgrade? Edited April 24, 2010 by gregers Quote
Mirez Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 Both my Mk2's have had this failed, my neigbours alhambra and my friends sharan have also all done the same. Its only this Mk2 that I've noticed the noise more however, but yes I would say this is a clear flawed part hence the revision and the complete material change. Quote
gregers Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 ill keep an eye/ear on this then mirez. Quote
harpster Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 ill keep an eye/ear on this then mirez.HIYou are correct in saying it is a comon fault as on my alhambra the same bracket is cracked. Is the part number of 7M3145846A for the steel bracket or the brittle current bracket fitted to the intercooler/turbo pipethanks for the detailed post including the picsgreat stuff.. Quote
