Gearbox Id Code

Can anyone tell me if you can find and read the gearbox ID three letter code while it is still in the car?, I'm having right problems trying to get a gearbox without this code :( ,could someone please point out where to look? cheers

somewhere on the gearbox housing you'll find it. Not sure where on these beasts, most likely underneath or on the sides where it's hard to find.

yes, you've just explained the problem, I could do with an exact position to look for as I have looked all around the underneath of it with no joy, all i can find is:- WWO O2N 301 10 030 and no one in the trade seems to recognise any of this code! a picture would be great! thanks mate :(

O2N gearbox I reckon. Most (if not all) VW gearboxes start O2*.

Just done a little Googling and it seems O2N is the g'box code for our MK2 derv's.
