alanrob Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Mine worked fine on vista. Plugged the cable in first time in the house and made sure the software found the adaptor. The only thing i needed to change was the baud rate(4800) and com port (to com1 or com2) on the usb-serial interface in device manager. Al Quote

alanrob Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 It didnt work, so when serial comms dont work you try it at a different speed, going lower first. I think it should work fine at 9600 but on mine it didnt. Quote

Are you sure that you have the right port allocated. Go into Device Manager and check which port your usb/serial adapter is using. Most likely it will be using port 5 or higher ( dependant upon the mood vista is in, it could be anything ). If so change this port number to 3 ( or anything 4 or below that windows doesn't object to ). Then use this port in vagcom and all should be fine. Quote

You running the correct drivers , if its an ftdi chipset ( 99% of them are ) then try downloading the correct Virtual Com. Port ones from the manufacturer. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Also make sure that you install vagcom in admin mode and ideally to its own directory on the C: drive.Do not install it into the Program Files folder as Vista is paranoid about programs running in this and will prevent them from making any changes. Again run the program in admin mode....winxp or win98 compatibility shouldn't be necessary but won't do any harm. As mentioned before check the Com port number assigned by windows. Failing this try using Vagcom 3.11 as it is more stable than 4.09.( Mk1 owners may have problems accessing 09 Central Electronics using this. ) Quote
gregers Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 kev think your goner have to talk me through this RATHER SLOWLY  in its own directory????now how the hell do you do that????? Quote
big_kev Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 When you install the program it should suggest a directory usually C:\program Files\VAG-COM...... Simply change this to C:\VAG-COM p.s hope you don't mind me calling you simply  Quote
gregers Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 ah ha.....so if im looking at this right ;) if i uninstall the program.reinstall it and follow your instructions it might work????or am i going to have to reformat my hard drive to make sure all traces of vag are removed???? regards simply's   Quote
big_kev Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 WAIT NO!......DON'T DO IT  Nah....just kidding....uninstall & reinstall it'll be fine . Quote
cyborg Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) Before you format drive try creating another User Admin Account you can do this by typing user accounts in the start search box then click Manage another account By doing this its almost same as clean install or download use ccleaner to fix registry problem caused by Vag installation.
