bubbie Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Ok i'll try to make it simple i have had trouble with me handbrake in the past.I have been pulling my handbrake and there was nothing there very little braking grip. This problem was supposed to be sorted last year after an mot, siezed piston the garage owner told me,so i told him to sort it out which he did 40 quid for the part an 40 quid labour.when i went to collect my car the handbrake was great but the garage owner said just 40 quid for labour becouse he had unsiezed the piston supposedly.lieing tw@t i got under neath my car the other day for a good look at the handbrake cable and saw that there was a rustyhinge type mechanism attatched to the end of the cable which i hit gently with a hammer an it moved so wd40 it and pushed it up an down jumped in my car an the handbrake worked on 3 clicks.when i looked at the other side there was some kind of spring type mechanism that wasn't on this side.my problem is can i buy the spring that is missing, and attatch it i have a haines manual and it is on page 9.10 diagram 9.13 the spring is next to the bolt labeled 1.it's a 2.0 galaxy p reg if this helps.my mot is up soon so would like to see if i can sort it for myself without the dodgey garage blokes lol.It looks similar to a large safety pin type coil without the safety bit attatched. :) Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 I believe that the spring you describe is the handbrake actuator return spring on the caliper. It hooks around the arm, goes around the pivot and is preloaded against the caliper. There should be one on each caliper, and the retail price is Quote
