judyandpaul Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Does anyone else have this problem? This has happened twice in 2 weeks. Alert on dash says tyre pressure is low. We fill with air and then the valve breaks of when removing the nozzle. The air rushes out of the tyre and goes flat. As we dont have a spare and the gunk doesnt work without a valve this is a bad problem. The garage have offered to put this right under warranty but we want a spare wheel!!! The car is less than 2 years old. Does anyone recommend buying a spare wheel or just putting standard rubber valves in and do without the intelligent bit! Thanks in anticipation. Quote
tractorboy1964 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Same thing happened to my wife, but the valve cap had seized on and the top of the valve stem snapped off when trying to remove the cap. The local tyre place (Autofit, Ipswich -highly recommended) replaced the valve with a standard one for no charge which kept us going whilst I sorted the Fraud replacement. The Fraud valve comes in two parts; the valve stem plus sensor ( Quote
hotleaduk Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 This happened to my 2008 galaxy, tried to adjust pressure and valve thread broke but luckily it was still hanging on so screwed a larger dust cap on until I booked into a ford dealer.Phoned Ford customer support and they said they can't say it is under warranty until ford dealer had inspected it. Took it into dealer who had to order part and tried to charge me Quote
hotleaduk Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 These tpms valves gets corroded within a year. When I bought my Galaxy I had not noticed that the securing nut was split on 2 tpms valves. One came off when I had a service and the dealer replaced it free of charge but the other broke apart when I was driving on the motorway. It deflated within 30 seconds and luckily I pull over to the hard should and got recovery to take me to a tyre garage who put a normal valve and a new tyre as the wheel had damaged the tyre. These valves are a safety hazard as the thread break off or once corroded will crack and break off while you are driving. I'm not sure how Ford's get away with it.I have decided they are not worth and replace all with rubber valves. I have had 3 flat tyres with broken valves within 18 month. On my last car I had 2 flats with nails in 10 years. Quote
jakey247 Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Having read several threads on here and doing a bit of a trawl round the net, it would appear that the aluminium stems are a known issue and in the US, ford has introduced a rubber stem valve for use on TPMS systems. http://www.teamji.com/fedex/images/TPMS%20Sensors%20on%20Ford%20Branded%20Vehicles,%20v2.0.pdf Wonder if this is being introduced in the UK? and if the valve has been re-designed? jakey247 Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 It also appears that Bartec make a universal rubber stem valve with a programmable sensor. Not found anyone in the uk yet that offers fitting and coding of these but its likely to be a cheaper option than new sensors and valves from the dealer? http://www.bartecautoid.com/tpms-pad.html Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Yet another example of letting idiots make rules and design things. One has to wonder how bad things have to be before the long suffering public revolts. Quote
