Sammie Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Hiya all, I'm new to this site so please bare with me!! I bought a Y reg (2001) Galaxy Ghia around 2 weeks ago after my beloved Alhambra was stolen and burnt out. When i bought the galaxy it had one remote key and one manual key. The remote key doesnt work. Apparently the last owner washed it in the washing machine. You can see theyve tried to get it working as it has stab holes on the buttons-possibly because of a screwdriver???...anyway...the thing doesnt work...Contacted Fords last week, they quoted me Quote
gregers Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 does the key have the correct pats chip within it?if so a bit of cannibalizing is required to get a working remote key, lots of info on here about keys. Quote
Richard gal Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Have you tried reprograming it? ...see book... it may take a few goes before it works though. Quote

big_kev Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Does the remote key still open and start the car manually ? If so then all you need is the remote section of the key which can easily be obtained and programmed yourself in under a minute. Loads ( new and used ) on ebay etc. Quote

I was debating on that after reading god knows how many articles on here but my partner has convinced me if i try to do that it will deactivate the immobilizer and i wont have any access to my car....is this true? Thanks for your replies Sammie P.SIm sorry if this is a repeat message..I couldnt find first reply even though it said it sent LOL Quote
gregers Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 right from what im reading is.........your so called BROKEN key opens the doors(central locking)and STARTS the car is this correct?engine stays on?????if so then the immobilizer chip is working correctly :) this is the bit(chip)that costs a arm and leg at the dealers.so im thinking all you need to do is reprogram the remote to the car, this you can do yourself, read your manual or look in the faqs for reprogramming remote keys, this may take you numerous times before you get it,but the good news is it sounds as if you will not have to part with vast amounts of dosh. ;) Quote

Richard gal Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 (edited) Well done, its such a bugger putting a key in a door and turning it, had a kuga for a month while waiting for new Smax, it had button start and keyless entry, now it really is a bugger pressing the remote to open the door and the massive fiddle putting the key in to start it! PS in olden days unlocking the drivers door did nothing to unlock other doors!!! Edited April 11, 2010 by Richard gal Quote
