boffa Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 51 plate Galaxy tdi ghia, off side rear passenger door is locked shut. I started getting problems with my off side rear passenger door a few weeks ago. Sometimes it would lock as normal from the remote key and sometimes it wouldn't. Checked all the wires in the door boots and they check out ok, so finally got round to taking off the card and checking the latch. The problem seemed to be the electronic lock motor, it was recieving voltage but not locking every time. So I clipped the panel back on and found a complete latch and motor on ebay for Quote
boffa Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 Well the issue is sorted. If it happens to anyone else, there is a way out of the problem, but it's not pretty! With the door card off and the protective foam out of the way. just a small portion of the white plastic motor housing can be seen. You can just about remove one of the small phillips screws that holds the lid down. Force a large flat screwdriver into the motor housing and basically smash it open and rip the gears and motors out from within. Hey presto, the door opens! I wouldn't of attempted this without knowing for sure the electric motor was the problem and already having the replacement part in hand. Hope this helps someone out in the future. Quote
mark.aa Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 the reason they fail is the locking motors are used from the old MK4 escorts and they were rubbish, they seizedone of the few parts that ford brought to the party.(radios 2.0 2.3 engines badges)found this out when i when,t to a vw dealer to get one when my local ford dealer closed ,parts guy brought one out of its box,saw the vw sticker on it and when i rubbed it the ford logo came through. thought is looked familiar! Joey P Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 Old topic but current problem for me. How did you manage to get the card off with the door closed. I have the handle off and 2 bolts removed but it does not seem to want to pull out at the bottom to then shift up. Quote
BrianH Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) there is several yellow clips inside the door card which will be holding it on. If its a rear door you stand a reasonable chance of removing the card by prising the edges up without breaking it (remove the seat next to it if you can) front door would be more tricky. Your almost guaranteed to break the clips when removing them anyway so it would be an idea to find replacements - example on ebay here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190853132006 Edited July 29, 2014 by BrianH Quote
