Guest aard1vark Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Drivers door lock is dead and has also caused problem with door micro switches.Door thinks its open hence will not lock.Need to get inside door, how the hell do you remove internal door skin.Or is it possible to remove barrel and door handle. I noticed a screw head that is on center line of barrel. Once this is removed can anything be accessed.Any feedback appreciated. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Lets do a Dave G here :D .........it may be a bit easierfor us to help you if you let know a few more details of the vehicle you wish to dismantle! but in the mean while this may help for starters..... MK1 door card removal once the door card is off you should at a struggle be able to see most of the parts you need to, to see whats not working correctly? but if not here goes.............. I'l stick to describing the MK1 lock removal as I have done a couple of times :D once the door card if off you should be able to see the lock and all the associated parts? to remove the outer handle, its the screw you mentioned on the barrels center line the three below it hold the lock in place with all these removed you need to disconnect the locking mech from the door handle! this is done by pulling the lock inwards and down from the outer handle, once these parts are seperated you can take out the door handle by pulling the lock end of the handle out away from the door and sliding it towards the rear of the car you now have access to all that parts you need to in order to see why the locks not working! it could also be something else that is the cause of you problems? like the most common cause :D the old broken wire in the door loom again! check these before you start tearing things apart Quote
Tigger Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 When opening the doors with remote they close again if nothing is opened in about 1min is this normal? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 IIRC yes, this has been covered elsewhere and it was decided that it is normal but a right royal pain if you leave the keys in the car! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 Yes, Tigger this is normal and often very annoying (if you unlock the car then proceed towards it with arms full of shopping etc and don't get there in time!) Quote
