Jason Terry Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Hi there, I have just purchased a 2002 1.9tdi and when i collected it there were only two keys, the flat (master) key and a key with radio buttons on it. I have read the manual and managed to get the radio buttoned key to lock / open the remote central locking, but it will not start the car - well it starts and then stalls! I realise that this is a key coding problem, but can anyone offer any advice as to where i can get the key recoded at a reasonable price... ie i have been quoted between Quote
big_kev Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Its most likely that someone the PATS chip has fallen out of the remote key when someone has changed the battery in it......or possibly the chip has been decoded. Either way the simplest short term solution is to nick the chip out of the flat key and put it into the remote key ( glue it in ! ). You should be able to find a locksmith in your area who can recode the chip if it is still in the remote to your car. Click HERE for further info. Quote

I like the idea of someone cloning the transponder chip - who has had this done and for how much. Also, is it the chip itself that is somehow programmed to the car or the PATS system 'told' to accept a different chip?. Thanks Frogeye Quote
