Had a turbo impellor fail recently on my Mk1 98 1.9 resulting in the sump oil being burnt off through the exhaust.

I didn't know about the trick of stalling until the highway Agency guy helped out. After re-oiling the engine runs ok with no knocking so hopefully it will be just the turbo....

I plan to get a recon turbo fitted with a warranty along with oil change, new filter and ford supplied oil feed pipe.

Not sure whether the intercooler would be damaged at all or maybe it just need cleaning - could it be damaged in anyway? welcome your thoughts?

I do not want to change the exhaust system - should I ask the garage to remove the exhaust and drain the oil

or could I get away with running the engine at medium / high revs for for an hour or two / day to clean out the

exhaust? I suspect that this

I notice that several members have suggested drilling the exhaust and then welding the holes up after a day or two? Has anyone else tried this or is unneccesary?

Is there anything else to consider?

many thanks

I suspect you may need your CAT looking at/replacing.

As it's a diesel you might just want to get a de-cat instead, might be cheaper and won't make the car fail on emissions as they're not tested on diesels.

I would second that idea. Replace the cat with a straight pipe as the cat will be satuarted with oil and will do more harm than good now. The cat doesnt do much for diesels anyway. i have taken the cat out of many diesels and havent had an emissions fail yet.

After this, Just drive the dam car. Especially some motorway driving is needed. Go see some relatives far away. Say in 5th gear if its a six speed gearbox or fourth if it is a five speed box. This will warm the exhaust up good and the high flow of gasses will blast or burn out any oil.

Only if after many miles of driving that you think there is still clouds of smoke still behind you, or you have failed an emissions test, then think about changing the exhaust.

Even if you drill holes in the exhaust to let the excess oil out, the insides of the exhaust sections are still covering in oil and would need to be burned off.

In any case, you will be wiping oil off the tailpipe end for weeks and weeks later.
