dodge Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 (edited) The other day the Mrs had a problem with our 1998 1.9 glx Tdi.When using the key to open the drivers door both front elec windows opened and stayed that way and the key became stuck in the lock. Out came the RAC man as I was out and about (as is always the way when these things happen) He managed to get the key out of the lock and windows up and the Mrs on her way. His diagnosis was that the lock barrel is stuffed which I go along with as it has been getting stiff of late, but he says the window issue is unrelated. ;) Can anyone shed any light?I have browsed till my eyes bled and searched "global closure" but did'nt find much.Whats the lock barrel like to replace? Guest nimrod Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 he says the window issue is unrelated................ The lock controls the Global closure there are a couple of micro switches the lock operates when it is turned changing the barrel is not that hard but it does involve removing the door card, the door handle, thelock mech and the central locking mech motor, it may be a cheaper option to swap it with the passenger side barrel or just delock the doors and fit remote locking Quote
ALARM MAN Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 Why not just update to remote central locking Can be done very cheap And you dont have to use keys any more Ian ;) Quote

ALARM MAN Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I remember well Got a phone call from an old customerHad a VW golf and the windows kept opening but only in the rain Went down took door panel off it must of had some lock damage beforeAnd the micro switch and wires were very looseso when it rained water made an ark on the two wires and plop windows down just disconnected wires for windows ( he did'nt know they had ) and all was good so cheapest way is remote locking and do as nimrod said disconnect lock barrelcos global wiring is connected to both lock and unlock wires Ian Is it still raining ? :D Quote
