Guest Nik Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I took the radio 6000 cd out of my totaled '01 Galaxy, and placed it on my desk at work, with two (and later 4) speakers attached to it. With an old antenna, it's the perfect desk-audio! But, it's powered by a 500mA adapter, that's too less to operate normally. Radio is ok, but cd isn't good.So I want to buy a snd hand or a new adapter, but how much amperes does it need to give at my radio at least?Does anybody has an idea? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 First check the in-line fuse for the radio; hmm about 5A I guess?Output is about 20Watts per channel, total 80 watts so about 7 amps, but this will be maximum from the amplifier and they are supposed to be 50 percent efficient at most. Unit cannot draw 14 amps! I would think that 5 to 6 amps would be OK if you don't turn the volume up to much. You should find that an electronics "bench power supply" would be fine, but these tend to be expenive, more so than a portable radio/CD player which would be a very cheap, simple (and portable) option. It may be possible to run it off a car battery charger plugged into the mains, but it will need to be something other than a trickle charger. How are your ears now? Are you fully recovered yet?I'm having a few oains in my left ear from a cold I had a few weeks ago, cannot decide whether I should go to see the doctor or not (I really dion't like to trouble him for trivia, only been there about 4 times in 8 years that we have lived at present house). NB I have several old car radios in a cupboard at home, just don't use them because of the problems of power supply and speakers. Quote
Guest Nik Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Ivor, thank you very much for the reply! Tomorrow, I tried one thing (which I dared to do thanks to your answer also) and it was bingo!I took a computer power supply, measured the voltage, and I had a max of about 10 volts. That was ok, not 100%, but ok.Looked at the labels on it and saw that 5A was no problem! So I put the power supply in my cupboard at work, some wires in and out and I had a fully functioning radio + cd + rds + ... :( Even with two speakers I can reach without problems the volume level of 20-25!(higher would damage the speakers I suppose). About my ears: it's all better now, thanks! Ear trauma disappeared after a few weeks, dizzyness was present for 4 weeks like hell, some other 2 weeks that I could do much things but not all things, and another two weeks that it was disappearing. So I suffered 2 months from the crash. It was over after a full week of going on holiday (no stress). I was surprised it took so long, knowing that just after the accident, I was walking round and regulating all things and felt nothing. And now, I am waiting my honour green Galaxy "Business". Maybe within two weeks I hope... Pay attention for your ears! You need them. I think you'd better go to your doctor, he 'll be pleased to see you :D Quote
