Hi, phew at last the forum is up and going.....

Joined another Galaxy forum, helpful guys...trying to sort out my problem.

Hopefully you guys on here will put me right.

No dipped headlights working, at stalk turns off mains, nothing on the dipped lights..

Did a search on dipped headlights in this forum as below..

I don't think it would be the stalk as this does not switch the dipped off it only turns the main beam on and off. The dipped are always on if the headlamps are on. The only switch for the dipped is the main switch and the ignition switch.

Is that correct?

Both dipped bulbs been replaced, fuses ok. No voltage reading at bulb holder(yellow). Circuit around the earth is good(brown). The switch is ok, carried out various tests with volt meter.. Did voltage readings at P4.

The Sharan is just used as a workhorse now, I will keep it untill it dies...If I cant find the problem, is it possible to bridge it across somewhere to the main headlights, if the above is true?

Thanks for reading

Koro

Check the relay and also double check the fuses as the handbook description does not always match the fusebox fitted. On the lid of the box there is either an embossed or stick-on fuse description which should match the box. The fusebox/relay box is several layers deep. Edited by MrT

Hi, fuse No`s are 59 and 60, both ok...whereabouts is the relay, would you know which one I`m looking for...and are they replaceable?

On my original post, do you agree with what is written?

Thanks for taking the time to answer.....

Hi anybody got any ideas....

Great timing, identical problem on my 98 Galaxy just happened yesterday but sorry I don't yet have a solution. Driving with only full beam or parking lights is not to be recommended.

I have taken the lower trim off around the fuse box and dropped the whole fuse & relay assembly down but I am no wiser. Both the owner's guide and my Haynes Manual are useless when it comes to identifying fuses and relays. Fuses 59 & 60 are fine here too. According to the owner's guide, "relay 13" is for the lights but I don't know what car that diagram came from, it wasn't a Galaxy!

Any tips?

I think I have the answer :-) Annoyingly simple - replace both bulbs. The man at the Ford dealer told me that both can go at the same time but it sounded so unlikely I ignored him, and I immediately thought it had to be something like a relay. Stupid me. I guess one bulb goes, and they share a wire or fuse so the voltage increases and the surge blows the second one which was probably on its way out. Fortunately I had a spare to confirm it. Thankfully it's not an expensive repair.

There have been several other posts that say the same thing e.g. search for "Gone Out?, Where'd they go?"

Now I have to put all those trim panels back together.

Thanks, but I wish the answer was that simple...2 new bulbs fitted..no voltage getting to the lamp holders, dashboard switch is working ok, live feed out..

I am convinced its the relay.....so am going to bypass that one and put my own in..

So, I am hoping someone could give me an idea as to which type of relay I should buy to feed 2 dipped headlights (with an inline fuse, 10 A). Would definately appreciate an explanation as to how to wire up the relay...please..

Here`s hoping

Hi, you may have seen my other thread on how to wire up a relay.....

An update, took a live feed from the switch, P4 pin 8 (black /white). Through a inline fuse into a 4 pin relay. Took a live feed from battery, through a inline fuse. Wired back into the dipped headlights at bulb holder. And yes it all now works...Don`t know what the original problem was, but this fix will do for me..

Cheers
