Speakle Posted March 14, 2010 Author Report Posted March 14, 2010 This was the right place so here goes again: Hi, I picked up a 53 Galaxy at the weekend but have discovered the dvd player is non functional (I'll admit just a minor inconvenience). The kids are keen on me fixing it but I don't know where to start. There is no power at all. I've read elsewhere on the forum that there are a couple of fuses to check. I cannot see it indicated on the fuse card so I'm not sure what number it should be. Also, how do you gain access to the fuse on the back of the player? I tried removing the 4 screws from that little centre console thing but was still denied access. The DVD player has MB8000 written on it. Additionally although not ICE related, it would appear the parking sensors are unhappy. When you engage reverse it beeps briefly and the the button flashes, that's it though. I backed up to a wall until the towbar gave it a kiss and there was nothing. I'll admit there are a few things I'm still figuring out as I am still waiting for an owners handbook to arrive. Lovely car though! Quote
Gadgetoid Posted March 14, 2010 Report Posted March 14, 2010 First of all - do you still have the original Ford Stereo fitted? The DVD only works if its receives a 12v signal from the audio unit, so if anyone has messed with that, that could be your problem. This also means the DVD player only works when the radio is ON. If the radio is on, then you can turn on the DVD using either the remote control ( if you have it) pointed at the sensor at the bottom of either headrest screen, or by pressing the console button <Screen> for more than 10 secs. Once playing it will then play for a short time after the radio is switched OFF before switching itself off. You won't get DVD soundtracks through the radio speakers unless you connect them up with extra wiring - although this is relatively easy to do as the MB-8000 has standard audio connectors fitted to its rear. Or you can connect an RF transmitter to one of the headphone sockets, like you would with an iPOD. The MB-8000 is not the most versatile player - it won't take CD's. It will play some DVD recordable discs, but can be a bit picky. It will only play Region 2 pre-recorded DVD's, and cannot be made multi-regional. And if you want to check the fuse in the MB-8000, then you have to dismantle the whole centre console by taking out the screws that hold it to the floor. You will then find the 4 screws in the cubby hole are holding together the plastic cowl, a metal frame, and the signal processing unit, all above the actual DVD unit. If you are unlucky the signal processing unit will have blown and that is several hundred quid from Frauds Quote
Speakle Posted March 14, 2010 Author Report Posted March 14, 2010 I dismantled it all to check out the fuse. It was fine. I briefly managed to get it working for a few minutes. Both screens were on but only the drivers side was showing a picture. I was unaware about holding the screen button for 10 seconds. I remember seeing a PDF file showing installation instructions (to help me understand the wiring) but haven't been able to find it again. Any tips? Quote
Speakle Posted March 22, 2010 Author Report Posted March 22, 2010 It's all working fine now. I gave in and took it to an audio specialist. Cost Quote
