Hi Fivenecks,

How long does the 'not seem to want to know' last for.

I find on mine with the engine at normal temp and doing about 30 -35mph in 4th or 5th with the RPM at just below 2000 a sudden press on the accelerator causes a momentary hesitation before the car wants to start to accelerate.

It then accelerates normally up to the red line!

If I am easier on the throttle it seems to be okay.

May be slight turbo lag.

It your problem similar?

I get similar in my Auto. I come off the motorway up the sliproad at about 30mph, see a gap in the roundabout traffic put my foot down a little and nothing happens as the car thinks I am drifting along the motorway in top gear. I shove my foot down hard and it drops a few gears, red lines, tyres spin, traction control makes a few bangs or if the steering wheel is turned the stability program turns the power off/down.

Doesn't half scare you the first time you do it and that truck on the roundabout is fast approaching. There is a use for the up/down manual change at times.

My V6 auto is similar to yours but not as bad since I had a new autobox. Even now you can put your foot down and prior to kickdown, nothing happens for a fraction of a second and then all of a sudden you feel it pull.

With kickdown, you get all the power instantly on mine, but as you say it does drop down a couple of gears and the free and smooth revving unit will red line very quickly without you realising.

Previous autos that I've driven usually drop only one gear at kickdown - not sure why the Gal feels it needs to drop two?

The effect of kickdown on the Galaxy is further pronounced by the autobox ecu as it cuts out anything else that may be drawing power from the motor - like aircon for example and ensures that maximum motor power becomes available to the driver at kickdown.

I have now got used to these characteristics, and as you say, the tiptronic proves invaluable at these moments!

You dont actually take it off, you just unplug it! it cant hurt to try it!

and yes you can change it yourself but you may need the correct tool TORX bit to do it its a security type fixing! it has a nipple in the middle of the torx bolt that means you cant use a standard tool but a special security type tool thats available from most good tool shops! which rather defeats the object of making the security bolts if anyone can buy the tools to undo them! :D

Every time I have had one changed they just change the sensor and not the houseing! maybe VW do it differently as all mine have been done under warrenty!

Hi Fivenecks. I have a similar problem (or is it a problem?). My S-reg 1.9Tdi suffers similarly, no degrading of performance but is very flat and sluggish when you put your foot down. I've tried disconnecting the MAF sensor but it makes no difference. Monitoring the various threads on this website, there seems a differing opinion as to whether a "dead MAF" situation should show an improvement or no difference when it's disconnected.

I don't know whether I've got a problem or not, maybe I'm expecting too much after driving the company Focus Tdi. Trying a swap with someone else's Tdi or swapping MAF's is probably the way to assess it.

Hi, had a similar problem with my tdi.

Found a turbo pipe had a split in it so some times it was ok then other times totally US. Get someone to check the turbo pressure while driving .

Good luck Ben
