Guest stevej Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I've got a 97 Ghia X and the horn position is rediculous, If you are going around a roundabout for instance and someone cuts you up, you can never find the bloody horn button to beep them!!! Quote
Guest Scott Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Yep, I'd agree with that one as well.Mind you I was lucky enough to drive a new Porsche Boxster S at the w/e and the 'manual' tiptronic gearshifter button is in the same place - I went fast into a sharp bend & wanted a down-shift to power out... As you say the position is ridiculous for a horn but for a gear shift...~ Scott Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Horn on later ones is the crash pad in the steering wheel. Quote
Guest Scott Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Ah that's better, I guess other people didn't like it. It's a funny thing, most Fords I could jump in and everything felt natural, had two Scorpio's previous to my Galaxy and was surprised first driving this to find things working differently and I had to think about some actions... ~ Scott Quote
jakey247 Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I would agree with this as well, although the revised position is hardly the optimum one! Especially if like me you have multi-function wheel. I am still looking for the horn button by which time its too late to toot!!! B) Quote
dave2 Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 I have a 1999 TDI as yes I agree that the bloody horn buttons are useless I can never find them when needed. The other thing that irritates me is the plastic fuel tank. Every time I stop when its full-ish I feel and hear a thump in the back of my seat from the fuel sloshing around in the tank due to no bafuls. Come on Fords get this sorted. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Fuel tank... You mean come on VW and get this sorted. Later model is better, but most new cars have plastic tanks with some moulded in baffles. Quote
Guest steven.tunnicliffe@lineone.net Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Yes I couldn't agree more about the horn buttons...not that I use it much, but just when you need to vent your spleen, it disappears and you end up beeping at someone 200yds down the road which doesn't have the desired effect..ah well. And yes the fuel tank still gets me going...I keep thinking something's dropped off when I stop, other than that I love my bus/furniture van/can we all go to the do in yours as it will take us all car/can you take me to uni with all my stuff/can you give me mates a lift home taxi....MPV, I should say so! Quote
iainkirk Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Yup, as someone stated above - horn position is not the best on newest Galaxies...how often have you honked when trying to resume cruise speed using RES button? How often have you angrily thumped the centre of the steering wheel when trying to homk someone? Quote
Guest T120 Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Only had my Galaxy a week and the horn is realy irritating on the 2 occasions that I have had cause to use it. Yes I've hit the centre of the wheel and expected the bag to go off. Ford must mean you to only use the horn when going in a straight line, surely they are not that nieve, or are they. Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 quite a few times iain on the latter  Quote
_dg Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Tell me about it. On getting cut up I have washed the front and rear screen put the wipers on, flashed main beam, and indicated left and right. Tried to wind the windows down for some good old fashion abuse and adjusted the bloody door mirrors. By the time I have found the horn I am half a mile down the road and giving some old lady pedestrian a blast! Now I just tut and say "silly man" (or more likely woman - lol). Its easier. I bet the taxi drivers hate galaxies - they have to get out and actually ring your doorbell. Outrageous Quote
HJT Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I think the tone of all car horns is responsible for a lot of road rage. The sound is very "in your face (or ears to be pedantic)". You might simply be politely saying "I'm here" but it still sounds like "GET OUTTA THE WAY YOU F*%&ING IDIOT"Maybe some research needs to be done on the tone of these  While we're on the subject of communicating with other road users, how about brake lights that get brighter, the harder you brake. When someone in front brakes all the lights tell you is they're stopping or slowing down, only a trench dug by the front bumper, large amounts of tyre smoke and the passengers leaping out in blind panic, tells you the car in front is doing an emergency stop! Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 dg that post cracked me up :lol howard great idea,,and fredt shame it wasnt cost afective still live in hope james ps..i took off my gal horns hated the sound ,i installed 2 tone german horns a lot better  Quote
Guest steven.tunnicliffe@lineone.net Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I never use the horns anymore, they wake me up when I'm driving. Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 nice one fredt like the story  :) Quote
Guest barney Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Brakes that indicate how quickly you are braking should be like a Vertical scale, the harder you brake the higher the scale . I imagine it would be quite expensive to do and going by Fords reliabilty on the rear lights a disaster ! Barney Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 your right there barney the mk3 and 4 escorts and sierras was very bad for this problembad earthing, and water getting in to the multi plug james Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 Barney's idea is actually quite old and unfortunately european law does not allow this type of warning at present. I think that some american vehicles offer this system, but only on cars registered in USA. Quote
Guest EVSS Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 Your missing the point ...Its a anti-car rage product. think about it, your cut up , because probably like us your believe your driving an invisible vehicle, by the time you find the horn... youve calmed down. (and yes loads of innocent car drivers and pedestrians wonder why you honk them, because the culprit is now in next county.). amazing when i use the transit i become visible again. Quote
italiastar Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I assume the buttons are similar to the ones on my previous Space wagon - two thumb sized buttons either side. One day an idiot decided to reverse three car lengths into the front of my car to get a space in a supermarket car park. Fortunately I was stationary - waiting for the car i the space to come out. By the time I found the horn (after first punching the centre of the steering wheel) , the offending vehicle had parked in my Wagon which was only a few months old - it was Chrismas Eve to top it all!!. The person then drove off and parked on the other side of the carpark, pretending he hadn't noticed. Fortunately I had a witness who saw the whole lot - even better he was a Mitsubishi owner, better still when he gave me his contact details he was a salesman from my dealership. I guess this was something that suffered in the desire to intoduce Airbags as soon as possible. Quote
Taliska Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Funny thing with the horn on the multi-function steering wheel... I hit it more times accidentally than I do intentionally - I've not yet managed to find the horn when I've wanted to blast it. Seem to clip it when turning or when fiddling with the cruise control. It's a silly position where it is( or rather where they are!) Taliska Quote
