darrel83 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 hi everyone i brought a 2001 ford galaxy ghia 2.8 auto from a auction earlier today it has not missed a service from its main dealer and it has valid mot & tax. the car currently has 101,000 miles and comes with many extras. but now to the problem the engine mangement light is on but the car seems to start ok and seems to drive ok but i have been driving a old car for a year so maybe there are just things i aint noticing as this is my first galaxy. There also seems to be alot of smoke coming out of the exhaust when engine is left running but i was thinking maybe this is because it has a 2.8 litre engine. i hate mechanics and garages and i want to know if you guys know of any steps or suggestions of things i can try out & have a look at so i can get a bit closer to what my problem is. MrT Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 The engine management light can be brought on by many things including virtually anything that effects emissions. On mine it had been brought on by a dodgy MAF and failing coil packs causing a misfire. You really need an electronic code reader which will tell you exactly what the fault codes are that are causing this. You can buy a simple handheld reader that just downloads the codes, you then look up the code and it will clear the code. If you want to spend a little more you can go for a computer based reader with a connecting lead such as VAG-COM. If you buy a reader it needs to be for Volkswagen-Audi-Seat system rather than a Ford as the Galaxy Mk2 does not use the Ford system. You can look at: VAG-COM or you can phone these people for advice and buy from them, good prices and next day delivery: Tall to my car There are many other suppliers as well. Quote
