Timing ?

hello again 90bhp tdi engine , got a second hand engine for my car with no belt on but when ive put the belt and tensioners on to the marks in haynes , tried to turn with ratchet but feels like catching . thought cam was 180 out so moved it but to no help . does anyone know what im doing wrong please ........ have had aread on some other topics but dont seem to answer my puzzles

Follow the manufacturers procedure (TIS CD)

 

It somewhere on the forum I'm sure.

 

Just guessing but its something like

 

No.1 at TDC

 

camshaft locked at non belt end with the flat bit to the cylinder head using locking tool.

 

Lock fuel pump pulley with Drill bit shoved through correct hole into engine block
