I have successfully replaced the glow plug and had the aux heater working fine.

However, after a year or so it went again, so I replaced the plug again but this time it didn't work :25:

So, I have two questions.

1. I remember reading that the diagnostic computer would need to be reset to get the heater working again (although it didn't the first time I replaced the plug.) Is this always the case? I read that disconnecting the battery for 30 mins can do this.

2. What's the best way of testing the plug?

I know someone out there will have the answers - they always do :D

iirc if there has been 5 flameouts then it wont work until it has been reset with vag com or similar,

ask on here to see if there is anyone near by to you who would be kind enough to reset it for you?

Correct, and it will indeed need to be reset - disconnecting the battery won't have any effect on it.

Testing the plug.... humm, you can measure the resistance using a volt meter - if its ok it'll be less then 5ohm

you dont always need to reset the Aux heater with vag-com. Mine fired up fine with all five failures still showing on vag-com.

The problem I had (still have!) is the ambient temp sensor under the wiper arm failing mechanically inside. I have shorted both terminals together and all is now fine until May....it will then be wired to a dash switch so i have full control!

Thanks so far - anyone in the north west area with vag com?????

I bought a lead from ebay for 12 quid all in - including CD with vag.com on

Well worth buying - it might even be less than the fuel to get to someone with vag.com ;)
