Guest rockie95 Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Hi My Galaxy has now started having a tapping noise coming out of the engine, the crank has been changed and also the cams done, anyone got any other ideas, or even if serious where can I buy a reasonable Galaxy engine from.Brian Quote
HJT Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Can you tell which area of the engine the noise is coming from? Howard Quote
Guest rockie95 Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 The noise is coming from the valve area, I think but they have been changed along with the cams and the crank, the faster you go the faster the tap. She's just had a service. Drives great but the noise is driving me mad, it's got 100000 on the clock so maybe she needs a new one if I can get one for a reasonable price.Brian Quote
Topbloke Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 sounds like it could be a lazy hydraulic tappet . do you have the correct grade engine oil, fords tend to like there own oils or they used to on the older models. Quote
Guest kevinmac Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Try SLICK 50 put it in your oil it may help Quote
HJT Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Are you getting any blue smoke out the back? If you are it could be worn valve guides. I've had this before on another car, top end tap, blue smoke on start up and hard acceleration turned out to be valve guides. Howard Quote
Guest rockie95 Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Thanks for all the info re-oil etc, I will try that. The mechanic said he has done the exhaust valves and one was changed, it has had 3 oil changes with the correct grade put in, the tapping noise can't be pinpointed, I think I'm heading for a breakdown and I don't mean mechanical Quote
