studsmassive Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 thanks for your reply if the ford kit uses it then i will have a go thanks Quote
RADIOTWO Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 thanks for your reply if the ford kit uses it then i will have a go thanks I would not think there is enough power from the rear socket, you will be better taking a feed direct from the battery with a reasonable fuse. You will need a minimum of 4mm Sq running that sort of lengh of cable Radiotwo Quote
kevinp72 Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 hi can any body tell me i want to wire up my electrics so i can charge the battery on the caravan as we drive is there a live feed i can take off in the boot so that i dont need to go to the battery itself thanks When I fitted my towbar, I didn't think that the wire feeding the power supply socket in the boot was 'man enough' (or should that be 'person enough?). I bought a relay kit from Halfords and wired directly back to the battery. It had a slightly heavier duty wire and a 20Amp fuse. I think that this would be your best bet and it wasn't that fiddly. Just some door sill trims and I went through the engine bulkhead where there was an exhisting hole (which had a rubber grommet in it). Radiotwo I don't have a caravan but I do tow a large boat, the socket charges the battery and runs the fridge on it and thats about it - I bought the genuine wiring kit hence why I know where it takes the feed from but as with the above posts I wasn't overly happy that a) the wiring was up to the job and :P there wasn't a relay unit or some other restrictor to stop the 12V socket being live at the same time. At the end of the day though it is a fully fused circuit so the worst thats possible (in theory :P ) is a blown fuse. Quote

davec Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Fitter connected mine to the rear aux socket and it was fine til I bought a Bailey Senator with the Alko stabiliser, the connection became intermittent due to the combined fridge, stabiliser and charger load(I beleive) so I ran cable trhough car from battery in 4mm cable there was a grommet under the passenger glove box through to the engine, not had any problem since. The Alko locked up on its selfcheck and dealer told me it was often a bad power connection which was how I found the problem. Richard gal Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Alko brakes do take alot of power, and i think its suggested they have a seperate supply to the fridge etc. Quote
studsmassive Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 well lot of interseting comments but i have use the rear power outlet witch i have left disconected and i i put a fuse right next to it so i will inform you when i have tested Quote
