kevinp72 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Hi There, I'm a newbie with a problem : I have a 2004 Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi Ghia (115) with 55K on the clock. There is an abnormal vibration that seems to come from the engine at 1750rpm. The vibration starts a little before 1750rpm and finishes a little after. It's difficult to describe, but the engine is smooth up to about 1650rpm and then 'lumpy 'till about 1950rpm and then smooth again. The only likeness that springs to mind is (in my youth!) trying to rev a warm petrol engine with the choke out. The engine (presumably) is flooded with fuel and runs 'lumpy'. About 18 months ago (with only about 42K on the clock), a garage diagnosed 2 faulty injectors which they said were out of calibration? They ended up changing all 4 and a cracked valve seat. This seemed to cure the problem but it's back. I've since moved a long way from the garage and left it too long to go back to them (stupid, I know!).I've trawled through this excellent site, but no one seems to have had the same problem. I have had a friend plug a computer into the car (OBDII socket I think) and he said that there are no faults logged. Has anyone had or heard of anything similar? Any help would be very grateful. kevinp72 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) So,I'm 8 months on and now at 66K Miles, and have replaced the clutch (because it was slipping) and Dual Mass Flywheel whilst I was there (it was knackered). I was hoping that the problem was related to the crank-case sensor which picks up off of the DMF. Unfortunately, this hasn't cured the problem.I have been to another garage who has told me it is a definate mis-fire on one of the cylinders. This will be caused by either: The Fuel pump, An injector, The injector loom or The cam shaft (apparently the injectors are electronically controlled but are timed by the cam?).I doubt if the problem is the camshaft (or maybe hoping as it sounds dear!)as the problem is only in at a limited engine speed. Surely the cam would cause a problem throught the rev range?Anyway, A diesel injector specialist has told me that they can diagnose the problem for £90 + VAT, so she is booked in for the morning.... kevinp72 Posted October 30, 2010 Author Report Posted October 30, 2010 So the old gal went to the diesel specialist. "I've checked everything over and its not the fuel system" is what he said. Not what I wanted to hear! He suggested the Dual Mass Flywheel. "I changed it 2 weeks ago" I replaied. Doh!So I told him that I would pick the car up the following morning (This morning) but he called me at 8.30am. He said that this problem had been bugging him and that he refused to let the car beat him. He had spoken to several other mechanics about it and one suggested a sticking injector. This appears to work when interogated and shows no fault code, but can cause a mis-fire. He is going to change the injectors for me (FOC) to see if this cures the problem or not. He seems a really great guy (Dave @ Direct Diesel Injection Ltd, Chester) and doesn't give in easily!Roll on Monday and hopefully an end to my woes... Quote
kevinp72 Posted November 8, 2010 Author Report Posted November 8, 2010 Well, It wasn't the injectors, and Dave the diesel man has no idea what the problems is.I'm afraid it's time to trade her in. I have no more money to throw at her.I can't believe a car of this age/mileage has this problem.Oh well... :) Quote
