csj Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 hello have a gal 115 bhp xreg ghia diesel and was wondering if anyone had remapped the ecu on one , if so what were the benefits and drawbacks eg power and fuel consumption . and does it do any damage . thank you Quote
gregers Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 do a search on this and all will be revealed.a few peeps have done this and posted about it on the forum. Quote
csj Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 i put remapping into search before i posted but nothing came up . thank you Quote
gregers Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 yeah im afraid you have to think outside the box,and try different combinations when searching,i just tried ecu re map and loads came up,like this 1,http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...mp;hl=ecu+remap Quote
Jayton Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I think the 115 will see 145, maybe 150 after a remap. Please be aware if you start this sort of modding it won't stop with just 1 cheeky remap... oh no, you'll want a large FMIC, uprated turbo, uprated clutch... it's like a disease once you start :o Quote
jkspoff Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I had my Galaxy remapped as the regulars on here will remember a few years ago, it was significantly quicker and for the short term far superior, it was like your a 115bhp and it was remapped to nearer 150bhp, this created huge issues with overheating and eventually a cracked cylinder head that lead to me having to trade the car on. If you do decide to have it done then don't forget to upgrade the cooling system, turbo, exhaust etc etc and inform your insurance company, when I phoned my insurance they said it was uninsurable without a full written report from a specialist ! So to cut a long story shorter, if you want a 150bhp then buy one factory done ! Sorry to be so negative, just speaking from experience. Quote

seatkid Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 thanks for that have just sent a email to the one at scarborough , there site says no damage to engine through remap ?Complete tosh. When car companies produce higher power variants, all sorts of things are changed or modified - cylinder head, valves, upgraded cooling, camshaft profiles etc as well as brakes, clutch etc upgraded. It is NOT just a software remap. Read the small print - remap companies ALWAYS disclaim all responsibility for ANY damage to your car. (They'd be fools not to and soon out of business) You do it entirely at your own risk. Remapping a little, light Fabia is one thing but a heavy lumbering Shalaxy that requires more power and torque on a constant basis is another. Enjoy your remap while your car survives. At 200,000 miles I expect you'll see it into an early grave. And if you do start to have "overheating" problems, then please don't sell it on to an unsuspecting person without telling them about the remap. Oh,...and do tell the insurance about it! Quote

jkspoff Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 As mentioned, I would not recommend it, however, if you are prepared to spend a significant amount of money and time upgrading other components then it could be ok, but as seatkid mentioned if more power could be got out of the engine then the manufacturers would already do it. The 130bhp and 150bhp variants have uprated differences in the design. Anyway I have a BMW 525D now, might get it remapped ! NOT !!! and yes I had mine done by a very helpful and highly recommended local firm, but as mentioned you are doing it at your own risk, I don't blame them for my greedy desire to make my ex bus go faster ! HASSAN 786 Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 I'm running 195 bhp in tdi Alhambra that's had a remap and hybrid turbo. Was offered a money back guarantee by Evolutionchips. I need a bigger intercooler though for more power.. I have driven 45,000 miles with no problems or issues, economy is not effected or reliabilty. Recommend it highly. Manufacturers take emmisions into consideration when mapping a car to meet eu standards, after market remap only considers uk emissions standard and not what is legislated by eu standards (manufacturers produce for worldwide Market and not just uk which is irrelevant for uk residents) Quote
easycyclers Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 As a newbie to the forums, I apologise for bringing up an old subject. But can I remap my 96 galaxy for economy purposes? I have no need for increased power/torque etc. But as I am only achieving about 30 mpg on a 150k engine I would be interested in spending less on fuel. Quote
MRVR6 Posted March 12, 2017 Report Posted March 12, 2017 Try a fuel rail tuning chip, I had one on a espace and worked really well! cost me £35 ebay Quote
ronald1017 Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 Were you able to do it right? Quote
