edmondsj Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 I'm looking for some suggestions on what to do. My Galaxy is 2 years 4 months old and has done 32,000. Just took a trip to Paris with the family and noticed that at around 45 mph when accelerating hard (ish) gearbox seems to slip into neutral. Same thing happens in both 4th or 5th gear, but not in 3rd at same speed. In fact appear to be able to accelerate hard in 1st, 2nd 3rd without problem. This fault has occurred quite suddenly but has not gone away. If I accelerate slowly or I'm cruising 4th and 5th appear to work OK. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 (1) Check fluid level for transmission. (2) If you can consistently repeat this problem, take it to a dealer and demonstrate the fault to them. Get it fixed under warranty or it will cost hundreds (or thousands) to get it sorted later. I'm getting concerned at the number of auto box faults being reported on the forum. Was contemplating changing my Gal for an auto next year but I doubt if I will now. Quote
Dave-G Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 :D That sounds like the clutch slip prob's I had.... resulting in new g-box[warrantee] :D [view my posts] however thats not to say that it would have been neccasary to do a complete replacement if i had taken it to an auto-box specialist rather than the main dealer....which I WOULD have done if i dint have a warranty  Quote
edmondsj Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 I have no warranty and so need advice on how best to proceed. Can anyone suggest a reputable autobox specialist? :( Quote

johnb80 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 How do you check the fluid level in the autobox, mine doesnt appear to have a dipstick for the tranny. Regards - JB Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 From what I can gather there is a test drain on the gearbox, you have to get the transmission fluid up to 30C, with the engine running stick the box into P (park) and undo the drain bolt, if no fluid pours out then you need to top it up! if it does pour out then its ok! then rplace the test drain seal and stick the bolt back in, sounds like a dealer job only as you need to plug the gear box into a diagnostic tool in order to read the fluids temperature! Jim Posted April 24, 2004 Report Posted April 24, 2004 I have no warranty and so need advice on how best to proceed. Can anyone suggest a reputable autobox specialist? :oWhy do you have no warranty? Ford provide a 3 year warranty on Galaxys after Summer (ish) 2000. My October 2000 Gal came with a three year warranty and also timing belt change at 40,000 (reduced from 60,000). Double check with Ford Customer Care and not the dealer. Quote
