oggie Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Gal 1.9tdi 1999 ghia x.I have towed a caravan for a couple of years with the gal and the performance has always been excellent, this bank hols towed to north wales and the peformance was abismal, any slight incline and it was down the gears and lucky to get over 40mph, we struggled all the way even on the flat, when not towing the gal seems ok, but lacks any umph if u know what i mean. I have tried disconnecting the MAF sensor and it runs the same, so no noticable loss or increase in performance there, I had the cam belt changed 2 weeks agoand my thoughts were, have the garage not set it up correctly i.e. slipped a tooth ?any ideas would be appreciated.cheersOggie Quote
oggie Posted April 13, 2004 Author Report Posted April 13, 2004 Took the gal to my local garage today the owner has a mark 2, He checked all the vacuum pipes etc, and found all to be ok, one thing he noticed was that i had changed the fuel filter recently, the new one was only partly filled with diesel with diferent size pipework to the original, he changed it, and took it out and seems to pick up better ? so am trying it out to see if it has cured the problem. If not he will recheck the cam belt settings. will keep you posted but if you think of any thing else it could be, please postcheersoggie Quote
charles Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 If disconnecting the MAF has no influence, then the MAF is definity suspect! With a diagnosis at the ford garage you will know sure if the MAF is defective Quote
Mussey1 Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 A few weeks ago I disconnected my working MAF to see if there was any difference. It was amazing, the car felt like it had the engine from 1.8D Fiesta, incredibly slow and it nearly stopped on inlclines. If you say there is no difference in performance with the MAF disconnected it is probably on the way out. Mussey1. Quote
