Please help me.

hi fellas

I have had recurring intermitent fault with my 2002 2.3 petrol. Every now and again it misfires, all power cuts for a second you get a jolt like you have gone over a speed bump then it goes back to normal. Does this under all sorts of conditions so no common denominator. It used to happen once a week ish but now its happening more so the wife has demanded a new car, she has a deal worked out for a zafira chopping the galaxy in against it i have till next saturday to sort it or the galaxy goes.

I have had a new set of leads and coil pack, cam sensor, crank sensor, fuel filters and a full service done. Nothing comes up on any diagnostic and i have had it to two places to run it on different diagnostic machines.

I dont know what else it could be, mechanic is a guy i know well and he is at a loss as to what it is as well. He cant reproduce the fault in the workshop and has changed all the parts he thinks would cause it. The only option he can suggest is it may be ecu related and have that sent off and tested but he is still sceptical

Does any one have any other ideas and is it worth having the ecu checked??

Please help before i end up with a vauxhall parked on the drive and i am 4k lighter in the pocket

Cheers in advance

Ask on here if someone close would be kind enough to swap ECU's for a few days to confirm that possibility. It does sound like you've tried alot.

What ever you do don't let her get a Zaffy! My brother in law prefers my X reg Ghia to his 57 Zaffy! ;) It's also got more toys than his and cost 1/4 the price.

I dont mind spending the money to have my ecu checked, just wondered how likely it would be that the ecu would produce the faults i am having without it showing up on a diagnostic

Cheers for the reply

DONT DO IT,i went down the zaffy route for a while,ok ish sort of car but not a patch on the gals.

YOUR REGRET IT IF YOU DO.

the decision will be taken out of my hands by this time next week i am afraid.

I really would like to stick with the galaxy but the wife worries that it is going to break down and strand her with two little kids, i can see her point.

other than this fault the car is spot on and she would be happy with it

cheers

Find a walk in Bosch specialist and get the ECU tested! Point out to her the middle row is bench and not individual seats ;)

That is what swayed it for me over the Zaffy's fold down seats and group 8 insurance....

Otherwise you'll be joining Vauxhell world :( (I had 1 Vauxhell... never again!)

Check the main fuse/terminal box in the engine compartment - the one that the alternator leads go into. Often this is burnt up causing intermittent connections.

Then check the fuse box under the drivers dash - look for loose relays - Relay30 may be dicky (dry joints) and often the connections to the bases of the relays come loose (requires quite a strip down to inspect)

These cause intermittent problems when driving over bumps.
