Jayton Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I'm storing 1 of the rear most seats in the garage to make for more boot space. What is the best way to store it? I'm afraid of covering it in bin liners and moisture building up and fungi growing on the seat. Should I get a load of silica packs and wrap the seat in bin liners and shove the silica packs in? Anything else to look out for / do ? Quote
TeamGreen Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I store my rear seats in my mum-in-laws in a spare room. She did complain at first but when I said that I'd have to tow her electric scooter with her in it instead of putting it in the boot she relented! I have a mate who stores his in his garage loosely covered with plastic and has had no probs. Quote
sparky29 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Should I get a load of silica packs and wrap the seat in bin liners and shove the silica packs in? Waste of time. Silica gel is hygroscopic - it takes moisture out of the air. Once they are damp they are useless unless you dry them out again.Unless you could make the bin liners completely air tight moisture would eventually get in anyway. Quote

I Concur - mine are just put in the garage under an old sheet and have been fine over the last 3 years.... Quote
Jayton Posted February 3, 2010 Author Report Posted February 3, 2010 Thanks all, I'll get some dust sheets to cover it. Quote
Belldarr Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Watch out for mice chewing them! :D Quote
Jayton Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 That's what I was worried about :D Not sure if there are mice/rats in the outlaws Garage... I'll see if I can put it up high. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 It also depends on how dry your garage is....... but letting air get to them freeely will be better than covering them with plastic, which tends to attract condensation and hence dampness on the seats Quote
torvil Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 What material are the seats?I store my 2 leather seats on my garage wall off brackets about 5 feet off the ground. Air circulation is much beeter than damps under plastic or cloth.Mine are in perfect condition after 18 months. Quote
Jayton Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 Plain old cloth, I'm going round the outlaws tomorrow so will get it up high away from mice! Quote
mk2vr6 Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 while we are on the long drawn out subject of seat storage.............. does anyone actually use the egg storage device in their fridge or do they just leave the eggs in the box they came in? Quote
Jayton Posted February 7, 2010 Author Report Posted February 7, 2010 Eggs stay in the box right near oven ofc, they only last 2 days max :o Quote
