smudge2002 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I have a 53 plate TDI with parking sensors and the front offside corner one is faulty. All the others click when the sensors are turned on, just this one seems to be dead. I want to check to see if it just a loose connection. However, by searching this forum the consensus seems to be that the only way to get to the wiring at the back of the sensor is to remove the front bumper. Anyone know if there is an easier way to get to this one? Not sure I want to be going to the hassle of removing the bumper just to see if it is a loose connection, bearing in mind I am a complete numpty when it comes to anything like this. I'd probably get the bumper off then not be able to get it back on again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. (Even if they are 'take it to your local auto electrician'). Quote

If you've ever taken one of the sensors off you'll know the likelyhood of a loose connection is remote! - the connectors are almost welded on! Its possible the wiring is damaged just before the plug but I've not seen that on the front ones, only the rears so its far more likely an internal fault with the sensor as that seems to be the most common form of failure. smudge2002 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks for the reply Mirez. That sounds about right. I was going of a previous Galaxy that had an problem with a rear sensor that I could resolve by feeling underneath the bumper and fiddling around with the wires. It seemed to do the trick, though it did re-ocur every now and then. How easy is it to replace the front ones? Can it be done with the bumper in place or will that have to be removed? I've seen the sensors on eBay so I could pick one up from there. Just not sure whether it's a job I could do myself. Quote

As with probably 90% of vehicle stuff its just getting in the right mindset and getting the right tools for the job - I havn't changed a front one but I believe you do need to drop the bumper off, don't be put off by that though - its only bolts at the end of the day! sainot Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Yes, there is a much easier way. You don't nee to remove the bumber. Simply remove the number plate then pop off the trim that runs along the middle of the bumber. The trim from each side meets in the middle behind the number plate. Gently prize off the trim and this will give you access to remove the sensors. Try swapping the faulty sensor with a good one to see if it starts clicking. If it does it will be a faulty sensor. If not, then it's the wiring. Be careful when you remove the sensors not to damage the wiring by trying to prise them off. There are some tricky clips on the edge that require a fine screwdriver to release the catch. If you don't loosen the catch you risk pulling the wires from the plug and making matters worse. Familiarise your self with how they come on and off by getting under the back of the galaxy and looking at the rear sensors and how they unclip. Good luck. Quote
smudge2002 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010 Thanks Sainot. I'll give that a go. Quote
marcostig Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Could be the wireing its made of cotton and breaks with age mine went on the back and they give you no loose wire to play with its too tight ..so it breaks..i had to solder some lengths on to get them to work .. Quote

Hi, the front corner bumper molding just pops off, only held on with clips. and pops back on again. Quote
