CGCred Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Hi all. Have a Mk1 2.0 Petrol Galaxy and our [only] key split in two last week and it looks like the PATS chip is lost [5 days searching on the drive and through the house hasn't worked so far...]. Excellent threads show a common theme of no PATS chip = no start. I've been advised to either go to Ford and get a new key and have them re-program it, or buy a key off ebaY [risky] and get it re-programmed, or buy an ECU, immobiliser and key [matching set from a scrap vehicle] and fit without the need to program [i've been advised i may only need the immobiliser and key not necessarily ECU as well on this last point]. I know I need a PATS chip, but if I get one, how do I make sure it works ok? If I only need a new key then how do I know the frequency of 433 or 433.92? Mine has a number on the side that matches the black box under the passenger seat [immobiliser ecu?] but no other identifying marks and it looks an easy way to waste Quote
big_kev Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) You need to get a new chip ( not a new key ) which you can then fit into your existing key. You can get a chip from an old Galaxy key ( doesnt need to be a remote one ). see link below http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=19743 This chip will need to be reprogrammed to the car.......dealer or very good auto electrician/locksmith. Remember to glue the chip into your key to avoid it falling out again. p.s. It will have almost certainly fallen out when the key initially split in two. Edited January 25, 2010 by big_kev Quote

CGCred Posted February 3, 2010 Author Report Posted February 3, 2010 just stick the chip to the inside of the ignition cowling.....simples  ps. not tried it yet though, will do today. will use tape first :) before I make it permanent My original thread and it's not fixed yet!!! Get the VEHICLE SECURITY NUMBER from Ford [reluctant] and you can then easily recode it. Saves a fotune, mine should be done tomorrow... Quote
Mirez Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 just stick the chip to the inside of the ignition cowling.....simples  The massive drawback to this is that you then have a car that anyone can start with a butterknife or just 10 seconds of free time plus you'll almost certainly invalidate your insurance as you've purposely defeated the immobiliser system.
