bfc1001 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 ive just bought a 03 galaxy tdi130 and im wanting to service it . ive always done my own but ive never serviced a diesel before. oil , oil filter, air filter im ok with as i guess its the same as a petrol but what do u do when it comes to the fuel filter and glow plugs? any info would be most welcome( like where they are and how to do it) . if i do manage to service it myself, which im hoping will it turn off the service light on start up or does this need to be turned off via the computer system? cheers. gregers Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 look in faqs the tech section on how to turn service light off,why do you need to change glow plugs???not on a service surley not?have you any receipts of any servicing being carried out on it before?there is a thread on here where the general consensus was that the fuel filter did not require replacement on every service. insider Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 You can change the fuel filter or sometimes there is a drain on it to just remove any water that's collected.Glow plugs do not need to be changed unless they become faulty. See this from the FAQ to reset the service indicator - http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...amp;#entry60286 Quote
bfc1001 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 its got a full service history but hasnt been done fo 10000miles. i was assuming glow plugs needed changing like spark plugs do but i guess they dont . like i said i dont really know that much about diesels so im trying to learn as much as i can. thanks for the link by the way. Jayton Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 They're just the same as petrol engines when it comes to servicing imo, all just nuts, bolts and clips ;) I presume his 130 is also a PD and thus requiring the special PD oil? I'm servicing my car next weekend after pay day, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and maybe an aircon regas, 4wheel alignment and a new tyre. Quote
bfc1001 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 pd oil? ill watch out for that. by what ive heard its pretty much the same as a petrol but without the spark plugs. cheers gents. Quote
